A deeply reflective poem about the fleeting nature of wealth, fame, and worldly achievements. It reminds us that beneath our smiles may lie silent struggles, and that true faith is reflected in compassion towards others.
Ultimately, our greatest legacy is not what we accumulate, but the love we share, the wounds we heal, and the humanity we leave behind.
The Last Thing We Leave Behind
He smiles beneath a troubled sky,
While silent storms fill up his eyes.
He walks through crowds, yet feels alone,
A wounded heart behind a face of stone.
He chased the world, its wealth, its praise,
And lost himself in life’s endless maze.
The hands he held slipped away,
And love became a price to pay.
We fear the truth, embrace the lies,
Build walls between our hearts and lives.
We pray to God, yet fail to see
The divine in those who beg for mercy.
One day, our footsteps fade away,
And wealth and fame no longer stay.
When all is gone, what will remain?
Wealth means nothing, our names unclear.
O human heart, before you depart,
Leave less of a wound, more love in a heart.
For life’s true purpose, after all,
Is not to rise above, but to stand by all.
When the final chapter comes to close,
Let love be the only thing that grows.
Our true legacy is not what we possess,
but the kindness we leave behind.
