This is a gentle poem about an invisible friendship that straddles dreams and reality. It highlights the comforting presence of a distant soul who feels close—bringing laughter, warmth, and the simple assurance that everything will be okay.
Often, the most profound friendships are the ones we feel in our hearts, even if we can’t see or touch them.
My Unseen Friend
Hello, my dear unseen friend,
I know you are somewhere—
perhaps beneath another sky,
walking a different road,
living a life I may never know.
And yet, somehow,
I find you in my dreams.
You arrive without a sound,
sit beside me without a question,
and suddenly,
the loneliness feels
a little less lonely.
You never ask
why my eyes are tired,
why my heart is heavy,
or why I sometimes
hide my sadness behind a smile.
You simply stay.
And somehow,
your silent presence
speaks louder than words.
How can I ever thank you
for being a part of my life,
when you have touched my heart
without ever needing
to touch my hand?
Perhaps friendship
does not always need
a face,
a place,
or a physical presence.
Perhaps some souls
simply recognise each other
across the invisible distances
of time and space.
Thank you
for those childish laughter sessions—
those precious moments
when we forgot our age,
forgot our worries,
and laughed as though
the world had never taught us
how to be serious.
Thank you for the long conversations,
the silly stories,
the little jokes
that somehow made
ordinary moments extraordinary.
And then there were
those comforting words:
“It will be alright.”
Four simple words—
yet sometimes
they were enough
to carry me through
an entire day.
And those loving kisses,
those warm, invisible hugs—
how I wish
I could hold on to them
just a little longer.
Because some hugs
are not felt by the arms.
They are felt
by the heart.
You are my unseen friend,
a beautiful mystery
I meet somewhere
between sleep and waking.
And every time
you disappear with the dawn,
I am left wondering—
was it only a dream,
or did two lonely hearts
really meet
for a little while?

Verma ji, this is such a beautiful and tender poem. You have captured the quiet magic of an unseen friendship with such warmth and honesty—especially the lines about hugs being felt by the heart and “It will be alright” carrying someone through a whole day. It reminds us that true connection doesn’t always need a face or a physical presence; sometimes two souls simply recognise each other across distance and dreams. Thank you for sharing this lovely, comforting piece.

Some friendships transcend presence; they become a quiet tenderness of the soul, where distance loses its meaning and the heart finds a home without ever meeting a face.
