This is a reflection on time, lost dreams, delayed happiness, and the truth that life goes on while we plan for tomorrow. It’s a reminder to slow down, appreciate the present, and live before another day passes by.
I Never Knew
Time kept moving—
but how it moved,
I never knew.
Life kept passing—
but what it became,
I never knew.
In the restless rush of living,
between dreams and duties,
between tomorrow and today,
when did my years slip away?
I never knew.
I wanted to touch the sky,
to follow every dream,
but somewhere along the way,
my wings grew tired.
And when I stopped to look around,
the sky seemed farther than before.
I never knew.
I kept postponing happiness
for a brighter day—
only to discover
that happiness was already
walking beside me.
Then one morning,
I looked into the mirror
and saw not just my face,
but all the years
I could never reclaim.
Now I ask for little—
a peaceful morning,
a grateful heart,
a few loved ones,
and the courage to live
before another day departs.
For time never announces
when it is leaving.
It simply goes—
and one day we look back
and whisper,
“Where did life go?”
And the answer is always the same—
“I never knew.”

Happiness is always there whenever we know how to create it. Such a wonderful piece, Verma.

Thank you so much for your kind words. 🙏 Indeed, happiness is often less about what we have and more about how we choose to see and live our lives. It can be found in the simplest moments—if we pause long enough to notice them.

You are doing great. You live well.
I dread living long, I do not know if it is because I have pain in my body daily and it makes doing the things I need to do hard.

Thank you for sharing something so honest and deeply human. I’m sorry that daily pain makes life feel so difficult. When the body hurts every day, it can understandably change the way we think about the future.
I hope you can be gentle with yourself. Perhaps the wish is not simply to live longer, but to live better—with comfort, dignity, purpose, and moments of joy.

Yes thank you. I think it is important to have a structure that will not crumble. Yeah I used to operate like a machine, now I know being human is important.

Absolutely. I think many of us spend years building a life that runs efficiently, but forget to build one that also feels meaningful. There comes a time when we realize that we are not machines designed merely to perform, achieve, and keep going.
Being human means slowing down, feeling, connecting, making mistakes, resting, and simply being present.

Yes slowing down is important so you don’t make terrible decisions.

Absolutely! Sometimes the best decisions are made when we stop, breathe, and give ourselves a little time. 😊
When emotions are high, we may react quickly and later wonder, “Why did I do that?” Slowing down creates a small but powerful space between the feeling and the decision.

Yes and it is amazing coming from people themselves over googling everything.

Absolutely! 😊 There is something special about learning from people—their experiences, stories, wisdom, and perspectives. Google can give us information, but people give that information a human touch. Sometimes, a simple conversation teaches us what a hundred searches cannot. 🙏

Such a beautiful and quietly powerful reflection, Verma ji. 🤍 Sometimes we spend so much time preparing for tomorrow that we forget to actually live today. The last lines stay with you long after you finish reading. “I never knew” — simple words, but such a profound truth. 🦋✨

Thank you so much for your beautiful and thoughtful words. 🤍
You captured the heart of the poem perfectly. Perhaps the greatest lesson of growing older is realizing that tomorrow is never promised, while today is quietly waiting to be lived.

A deeply awakening reflection. Time never stops it simply moves on, quietly reminding us that life is meant to be lived, not postponed. True wisdom is to find gratitude in today, before today becomes yesterday.

Thank you for this beautiful reflection. 🙏 Indeed, time never waits for us; it quietly carries every “today” into “yesterday.” Perhaps the real wisdom of life is to pause, be grateful, and live fully in the present—before the present becomes a memory

Thank you! ❤️ As we grow older, we begin to understand that time is perhaps the most precious gift we have. Tomorrow may be planned, but it is never guaranteed. That realization teaches us to stop postponing happiness, gratitude, love, and the things that truly matter.

Absolutely! ❤️ Perhaps this is what perfection really looks like—not having everything, but knowing what truly matters.
A peaceful morning, a grateful heart, a few people we love, and the courage to make the most of the day… what more could one really ask for?
