# I Love Silence Because…

There are moments when the world around us becomes too loud—too many voices, too many desires, too many expectations. In such moments, I find comfort in silence. For me, silence is not emptiness; it is a quiet space where I can hear my heart, remember the past, and listen to the voice of my conscience.

This poem is my small attempt to understand why I love silence and what it whispers when the world finally becomes still.

I Love Silence Because…

I love silence because
it never asks me to run
after material things.
It never demands a smile
when my heart aches,
never questions the tears
that quietly gather in my eyes.

I love silence because
in a noisy world of opinions,
it lets me hear my own soul—
a small, trembling voice
that often gets lost
beneath the hurried footsteps of life.

I love silence because
it does not judge my failures.
It sits beside me
when I have nothing to say,
like an old friend
who understands the language
of an unfinished sentence.

I love silence because
it speaks for those
whose voices have been taken away—
the hungry child beneath the streetlight,
the lonely old man behind a closed door,
the frightened animal
waiting for a gentle hand.

It remembers
the tears nobody noticed,
the wounds hidden beneath clothes,
the cries swallowed by fear,
and the prayers whispered
when hope seemed too far away.

I love silence because
after the storm has passed,
it teaches me to listen—
to the trembling leaves,
to the drops falling from the roof,
to the river carrying its ancient stories
towards an unknown sea.

There is silence
between two waves,
between two notes of music,
between two beats of a heart—
and in those tiny spaces,
life reveals
what noise keeps hidden.

I love silence because
it makes memories speak.

In silence,
I hear my mother’s voice,
the laughter of childhood friends,
the footsteps of those
who once walked beside me
but have long since disappeared
into the corridors of time.

I hear old songs
that no radio can play anymore.

I see faces
that photographs cannot bring back.

And somehow,
for a brief and beautiful moment,
the past sits beside me again.

I love silence because
it gives sorrow a place to breathe.

We spend so much of life
trying to escape sadness,
filling every empty moment
with screens, conversations,
music and endless activity.

Sometimes, silence whispers:

“Stay for a while.
You do not have to run.”

And when I finally stop running,
I discover that sorrow
is not always an enemy.

Sometimes sorrow
is simply love
with nowhere left to go.

I love silence because
it asks me softly:

Have I been kind enough?
Have I listened enough?
Have I helped someone
when no one was watching?
Have I forgiven those
who have hurt me again and again?

There are no loud answers.

Only silence.

And perhaps that is why
I love it so much—

because silence does not speak loudly,
yet it always tells the truth.

  1. Verma ji,

This is not just a poem—it is a quiet revolution of the heart. You have taken something we all fear (silence) and turned it into something we all need. The way you describe silence as a friend who “understands the language of an unfinished sentence” moved me deeply. And that line—”sorrow is simply love with nowhere left to go”—will stay with me for a long, long time.

You gave voice to the voiceless, space to the broken, and truth to the weary. Thank you for writing this. Thank you for reminding us that in a world obsessed with noise, the bravest thing we can do is stop—and listen.

Keep writing from that quiet place inside you. The world needs more of your stillness.

    With gratitude,
    Srikanth

    • Thank you so much for these incredibly thoughtful and touching words. 🙏❤️ Your comment has touched me deeply.
I believe some poems are not written merely with words; they emerge from those quiet corners of the heart where feelings often remain unspoken. I’m truly grateful that the poem’s thoughts on silence, sorrow, and listening resonated with you so deeply.
