# That Old Wooden Table #

This is a reflective poem about time and the quiet company of everyday things. Sitting by an old table that has seen many dreams and struggles, the poet thinks about absence and memory.

From moments of fear comes the understanding that tomorrow is uncertain, but today is a gift. The poem celebrates living fully, appreciating simple moments, and creating a life filled with meaning instead of regret.

# That Old Wooden Table #

Tonight I sat beside my table old,
Its faded wood, its heart of gold.
Through passing years, it stayed with me,
A silent friend, so faithfully.

My books lay resting, calm and still,
Witnesses to each dream and will.
The chair beside me seemed to know
The thoughts that only night can show.

Then came a thought both soft and deep—
One day, this room will quietly sleep.
No moving pen, no written line,
No voice, no dream, no sign of mine.

Dust may gather where I once wrote,
Silence may fill each forgotten note.
The table will remain somehow,
But I am only living now.

For a moment, fear knocked at my door,
The fear of being here no more.
But then the night spoke clear and bright:

“Enjoy this day, hold its light.
Tomorrow comes without a clue,
So treasure all that life gives you.”

Let me write while I still may,
Let me smile through each passing day.
For who has seen tomorrow’s way?

“Kal kisne dekha hai…” they say.
So live today with an open heart,
For every sunset is a work of art.
The days may fade, the years may fly,
But a life well lived never truly dies.

  1. Verma ji, this is such a beautiful and deeply moving poem. 🙏

The old wooden table becomes more than just furniture—it becomes a silent friend, a witness to dreams, struggles, and quiet midnight thoughts. I love how the poem moves from gentle reflection to fear, and then settles into such warm wisdom: “Tomorrow comes without a clue, / So treasure all that life gives you.” That line stays with you.

And “Kal kisne dekha hai…” gives it such a timeless, heartfelt touch. The ending—“a life well lived never truly dies”—is simply beautiful.

Thank you for this reminder to live today with an open heart and to find meaning in simple moments. Keep writing, Verma ji. Your words carry memory, warmth, and hope. 🌿✨
