# When My Art Became an Offering to Maa Durga.

When Devotion Becomes Art, and Dreams Come Alive

“Some festivals touch our hearts, but a few become a part of our souls. For me, Durga Puja is one such celebration—a beautiful blend of faith, creativity, tradition, and cherished memories.”

Hello, dear friends! I hope this blog finds you in a cheerful and festive mood.

As Durga Puja approaches, the air fills with excitement, devotion, and the promise of new beginnings. Streets begin to sparkle with colourful lights, magnificent pandals rise across neighbourhoods, and the rhythmic beats of the dhak announce the arrival of Maa Durga.

For millions of people, especially in Bengal, Durga Puja is much more than a religious festival. It is an emotion, a cultural heritage, and a celebration of life itself. It brings together faith and artistry, tradition and modernity, and, above all, people from different walks of life.

But this year’s Durga Puja holds a particularly special place in my heart for a reason that makes the celebration even more memorable.

Every artist dreams of creating something meaningful—something that goes beyond colours and canvas to touch people’s hearts. This Durga Puja, I had the wonderful opportunity to experience that feeling firsthand.

I created a beautiful painting of Maa Durga for the decoration of our community pandal. As part of the tradition of displaying paintings by resident artists, my artwork became a contribution to the collective beauty of the festival.

For me, it was not merely a painting; it was an offering of devotion, imagination, and heartfelt gratitude.

As I worked on the painting, every brushstroke felt special. The divine expression of Maa Durga, her powerful presence, and the grace reflected in her eyes inspired me to bring my deepest emotions onto the canvas.

I felt as though the colours were telling a story of courage, compassion, and the eternal victory of good over evil.

“When devotion meets creativity, even a simple brushstroke can become a prayer.”

Seeing my artwork included in the pandal decoration was a beautiful first experience. It gave me immense happiness to know that something created by my hands could become part of a celebration shared by so many people.

It also reminded me that art is not simply about recognition or perfection. Sometimes, its greatest reward is the joy of contributing something meaningful to the community.

During Durga Puja, Kolkata transforms into an enormous open-air art gallery. From traditional clay idols crafted by skilled artisans in Kumartuli to breathtaking pandals inspired by temples, historical monuments, and contemporary ideas, creativity flourishes everywhere.

Every pandal has its own identity, and every idol tells a story. The delicate craftsmanship, imaginative decorations, and glowing lights create an atmosphere that feels almost magical.

As someone who loves painting, I find this artistic spirit especially inspiring. It reminds me that creativity has no boundaries. Whether expressed through a grand installation or a single painting, art has the power to bring people together.

The festival also offers a wonderful platform for local artists to share their talent. Such opportunities encourage creativity, preserve cultural traditions, and allow residents to become active participants in their community’s celebrations.

The magnificence of Durga Puja lies not only in its outward splendour but also in its deeper spiritual meaning.

Maa Durga symbolises the triumph of righteousness over evil and courage over fear. Her strength reminds us that challenges are an inevitable part of life, but surrendering to them is not our only choice.

Her story encourages us to confront injustice, protect the vulnerable, and cultivate the strength to stand for what is right.

“True strength is not merely the power to conquer others; it is the courage to overcome the darkness within ourselves.”

In today’s world, where people often struggle with stress, uncertainty, and division, these timeless lessons remain remarkably relevant.

Perhaps the greatest way to honour Maa Durga is to carry her message into our daily lives—with kindness in our hearts, honesty in our actions, and courage in our convictions.

Durga Puja would be incomplete without its irresistible spirit of togetherness. Families reunite, friends exchange greetings, children proudly wear their new clothes, and strangers become companions while exploring the pandals.

The aroma of Bengali delicacies, the sweetness of rosogolla and sandesh, the energy of dhunuchi naach, and the powerful beats of the dhak make every moment memorable.

Yet, beyond all these pleasures, the festival teaches us something beautiful: happiness multiplies when it is shared.

My painting has given me another reason to feel connected to this collective joy. It has allowed me to participate not just as a devotee or spectator, but as an artist contributing to a living tradition.

As I welcome Durga Puja this year, my heart is filled with gratitude. Creating a painting of Maa Durga for our pandal has been a fulfilling first experience, one that I will treasure for years to come.

It has strengthened my belief that age is never a barrier to creativity and that there is always something new to learn, explore, and contribute.

May Maa Durga bless us with wisdom, courage, good health, and peace. May her divine presence inspire us to replace hatred with compassion, fear with faith, and indifference with humanity.

“Let us not merely welcome Maa Durga into our pandals; let us welcome her virtues into our hearts.”

Wishing everyone a joyful, blessed, and colourful Durga Puja!

Shubho Sharodiya! Jai Maa Durga! 🙏🌺
