After finishing my morning walk today, I sat down to write with a cup of tea in one hand and my pen in the other. ☕✍️

As my mind wandered through a thousand thoughts, one thought suddenly stayed with me:

“Why not talk about the journey of my own blog?”

And what a journey it has been!

❤️A Journey of Six Years

When I looked at the present statistics of my blog, I was genuinely delighted. What started as a small experiment after retirement has now grown into something I could never have imagined.

In this blogging journey, I have written 6,000 blogs, crossed 1 million views, and built a community of more than 3,600 followers.

For a retired banker who once knew almost nothing about blogging, these numbers are not merely statistics. They are memories, friendships, struggles, lessons and thousands of moments captured through words.

As the saying goes:

“Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.”

And that is perhaps the best description of my blogging journey.

❤️From Banking to Blogging

Before retirement, I spent more than three decades immersed in banking. My professional life revolved around customers, targets, files, figures, and responsibilities.

Blogging was nowhere on my radar.

Then retirement arrived.

Suddenly, the busy schedule disappeared. The mornings became longer, the afternoons quieter, and I began wondering:

“How should I use all this free time meaningfully?”

Like many retirees, I initially found the transition difficult. Sitting at home without a structured routine sometimes made me restless and irritable.

Then a friend gave me a simple but life-changing suggestion:

“Why don’t you start blogging?”

He reminded me that I had something valuable that cannot be bought or taught in a classroom—a lifetime of experiences.

Why not share those experiences with others?

That idea stayed with me.

Still, it took me nearly five months to gather the courage to begin.

❤️The First Step Was the Hardest

Eventually, with a beating heart and an unfamiliar fear, I started my blogging journey.

I knew very little about websites, blogging platforms, SEO, formatting, images or digital publishing. I was, quite honestly, a beginner.

But I discovered something important:

You don’t have to know everything before you begin. You learn by beginning.

The first challenge was deciding on a name.

Since I was a retired banker and wanted to bring my thoughts to readers through my pen, I chose:

RETIRE​D KALAM

“Retired” represented my professional life, while “Kalam” represented the writer I was slowly becoming.

And gradually, Retired Kalam became much more than a website.

It became my creative identity.

❤️From Stories to Poetry and Paintings

Initially, I wrote about my experiences and thoughts. Slowly, the blog expanded.

I began writing short stories, long-form reflections, travel experiences, memories, personal observations and inspirational pieces.

Then another door opened—poetry.

I started writing poems and sharing my own creations with readers. Words that once remained hidden inside my mind began finding their way onto the page.

And then came another passion: art and painting.

I created a separate space on my blog to share my sketches and paintings.

Writing, poetry and painting gradually became different expressions of the same creative soul.

As Henry David Thoreau beautifully said:

“How vain it is to sit down to write when you have not stood up to live.”

Perhaps that is why life experiences provide endless material for writing.

❤️My Readers Became My Companions

The most beautiful part of this journey has not been the numbers.

It has been people.

Every comment, suggestion, appreciation and even criticism has taught me something. Friends and readers have encouraged me, guided me, and helped me improve.

A blog may begin with one person sitting behind a computer, but it grows because another person chooses to read.

Every view is a visitor. Every comment is a conversation. Every follower is a connection.

That is why I am deeply grateful to everyone who has walked with me on this journey.

❤️6,000 Blogs—and Still Writing

Six thousand blogs may sound like a huge number, but when I look back, I don’t see 6,000 articles.

I see 6,000 mornings.
6,000 ideas.
6,000 attempts.
6000 little pieces of my life.

Some were written with joy, some with nostalgia, some with curiosity, and some during difficult moments.

But each one taught me something.

The world of blogging has also changed enormously over the years, with billions of people consuming digital content every day. Yet one thing remains timeless:

People still connect with authentic stories.

Technology may change the medium, but human emotions remain the same.

❤️The Blog Has Become Part of My Life

Today, blogging is no longer simply a hobby for me.

It has become a part of my daily life—a reason to think, create, learn and communicate.

Retirement taught me that stopping work does not mean stopping life.

Sometimes retirement is not an ending.

It is an invitation to discover the person you did not have time to become.

My blogging journey began with uncertainty. It continued with curiosity. And today, it gives me immense satisfaction.

I don’t know where the next 5,000 blogs will take me.

But I know one thing:

As long as I have thoughts in my mind, stories in my heart and a pen in my hand, the journey of Retired Kalam will continue.

For me, that first step was blogging.

And today, after 6,000 steps, I am still walking. ☕✍️🌸
