This poem is a gentle reflection on growing older, companionship, and the simple joys that become more precious with time. It reminds us that as the years pass, we may lose many things, but a warm cup of tea, a familiar conversation, shared memories, and someone beside us can make an ordinary evening feel wonderfully special.
Sometimes, happiness is simply having someone to sit with and say, “Stay a little longer.”
# A Cup of Tea #
Come, sit beside me.
Don’t ask how the day went—
we have lived enough days
to know that some are remembered,
while some are simply survived.
Just pour the tea.
Let us talk about nothing important—
the weather, an old friend,
a song we once loved,
or the children who now live
too far away to drop in for a cup.
We have grown older,
but perhaps not wiser
about loneliness.
We still wait for a familiar voice,
a knock on the door,
a message that simply says,
“How are you?”
Yes, the years have taken many things from us—
our youth, our strength,
some dreams, and some dear faces.
But they have also left us
with something precious:
the wisdom to value little moments.
So let us not count
the birthdays behind us.
Let us count the mornings
we are still given.
Let us laugh at our aches,
forgive our mistakes,
share our memories,
and care for each other
while we still can.
Dear, as the evening slowly falls,
let us raise our cups
and whisper a quiet thank you
for this beautiful, imperfect life.
Tomorrow can wait.
For now,
stay a little longer.
There is still tea in the cup,
a story on the lips,
and warmth in the heart.
So, let us enjoy this moment again—
together.

Thank you so much for your beautiful and heartfelt words.
You’ve captured the essence of what I was trying to express—sometimes the greatest joys of life are found in the simplest moments, shared with someone who makes our journey a little warmer.
“Stay a little longer” is indeed a quiet wish for companionship, love, and those precious moments we wish time would pause for

What a beautiful and moving poem, Verma ji. You’ve captured something so universal yet so deeply personal — the way time quietly reshapes our lives, yet leaves us with the simplest, most profound treasures: presence, warmth, and the courage to pause.
The line “Tomorrow can wait. For now, stay a little longer” resonates like a gentle echo of everything that truly matters. It’s not grand gestures that define a life, but these quiet cups of tea, shared silences, and the grace of being fully with someone in an ordinary moment.
Thank you for this tender reminder that aging is not just loss — it is also an opening, a deepening, a permission to stop running and simply be.
This poem feels like a warm blanket on a cool evening. I’ll carry its stillness with me. 🙏

This is absolute quiet perfection. In a world obsessed with rushing forward, your words capture the rare, profound beauty of simply slowing down to share a moment. The line “we have lived enough days to know that some are remembered, while some are simply survived” hits straight to the heart, while the ending leaves a lingering warmth that stays long after reading. A deeply touching, timeless piece.

Your comment touches me more than I can say. I believe that as we journey through life, we slowly learn that the most precious moments are often the simplest ones—the quiet pauses, a shared cup of tea, a familiar conversation, or simply being present with someone we love.

Beautiful, and very relatable. Two of my daughters live abroad with their families though thankfully a third lives nearby. We often stop the clock and just meet up for a natter.
