A gentle reflection on how life often mirrors our thoughts, emotions, and attitude. When we choose gratitude, kindness, and a smile—even through difficult days—we begin to see a little more light reflected back at us.
The Mirror Called Life
Life is a mirror.
It does not ask
how old you are,
how much you own,
or how many battles
you have survived.
It simply looks at you
and gives back
what you carry within.
Life never argues.
It simply reflects.
Bring it a smile,
and it returns a little sunshine.
Bring it gratitude,
and ordinary moments
begin to glow.
Bring it bitterness,
and even roses
seem to have thorns.
So I stopped asking life
to become kinder.
I began becoming kinder
to life.
I let yesterday rest,
gave tomorrow its own time,
and held today
a little closer.
Some mornings
still arrive with tears.
That’s all right.
Even the sky
cannot smile every day.
But whenever I can,
I smile—
and somewhere
in the quiet mirror of life,
a smile comes back.

Such a beautiful and soothing reflection Verma ji🤍 I loved the thought that life simply reflects what we carry within. Sometimes, when we choose a little gratitude and kindness, even ordinary days begin to feel a little brighter. ✨🦋🌸

Thank you so much for your beautiful words. ❤️
I completely agree—our inner state often colours the way we experience the world around us. A little gratitude can help us notice the blessings hidden in ordinary moments, while kindness can make even a difficult day feel lighter.

Well said Verma-ji. We all simply reflect our feelings to all those who look at us. If we are bitter, we get back bitterness. If we are sad, we get back sadness, if we are thankful, we get back grace, if we are happy, we get back love. It is like today’s Social apps. The more you Google the results you want, the more similar results you get back. Have a great day. Allan

Thank you, Allan, for such a thoughtful observation. 😊 I love your comparison with social apps—the more we focus on something, the more of it seems to come back into our world.
Life can work in a similar way. Our attitude influences what we notice, how we respond, and often how others respond to us. Gratitude invites grace, kindness encourages kindness, and happiness can become wonderfully contagious.

Thank you so much for your beautiful and generous words. ❤️ I’m touched that the reflection resonated with you. Life may not always give us sunshine, but perhaps we can learn to carry a little light within ourselves and share it with others, even on cloudy days.
Your phrase “carry it within ourselves” beautifully captures the essence of

Verma ji, this is a beautiful and deeply thoughtful reflection. Life may not always give us what we wish for, but it often reveals the quality of what we carry within. The thought of becoming kinder to life, rather than constantly asking life to become kinder to us, is especially profound.
Perhaps gratitude does not change the world outside immediately it changes the eyes with which we see it. And sometimes, that change is enough to make even an ordinary day appear a little more beautiful.

Thank you so much for this beautiful reflection. ❤️ You have expressed the essence of the message so beautifully—sometimes the greatest transformation does not happen in the world around us, but in the way we choose to see it.
I especially love your thought that gratitude changes the eyes with which we see life. When we become kinder to life, we begin to notice blessings that were perhaps there all along but hidden behind our expectations.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I’m delighted that you enjoyed my poem. 😊
The idea that life is a mirror has always fascinated me—it reminds us that what we give to the world often finds its way back to us. A little kindness, a smile, or a positive thought can sometimes create ripples far beyond what we imagine.

Life never argues.
It simply reflects.
I tend to think it refracts.
Bring it a smile,
and it returns a little sunshine.
Bring it gratitude,
and ordinary moments
begin to glow.

Thank you! I love your word “refracts” even more than “reflects.” 😊
A mirror simply gives back what it receives, but a prism refracts light and reveals its hidden colours. Perhaps life does the same—it takes our smiles, gratitude, love, and even our struggles, and transforms them into something new.

Good morning, and thank you so much for your beautiful and thoughtful words.
I truly loved your reflection on the idea that “Life is a mirror.” We may not be defined by our age, possessions, or the battles we have survived, but by what we carry within ourselves and what we reflect into the world.

My favorite line…”I stopped asking life to be kinder and started being kinder to life.”
Brilliant thought, Verma-ji.

Thank you so much! 🙏 That line is very close to my heart too.
Perhaps life does not always become kinder when we ask it to change; sometimes our own attitude toward life is what changes everything. When we begin to meet difficult days with gratitude, patience, and kindness, even the same circumstances can feel different.
