# I Am a Student of Life #

A simple reflection on life, I Am a Student of Life recognizes the wisdom gained from joy, sorrow, success, and failure.

It shows us that learning is a continuous process; each experience is a lesson, every challenge is a teacher, and each new day offers a chance to grow with humility, gratitude, and hope.

# I Am a Student of Life #

I have learned
that kindness
costs nothing,

yet enriches
every soul.

I have learned
that forgiveness
is not forgetting—

it is choosing
peace
over the burden
of bitterness.

I have learned
that happiness
rarely arrives
with applause.

Instead,
it quietly sits beside us—

in a shared cup of tea,

a familiar smile,

an old song,

or the laughter
of someone we love.

Now,

in this golden season
of my life,

my hair
wears the colour
of experience,

my face
bears the map
of countless journeys,

and my heart
still waits eagerly
for the next lesson.

Because I know

life
never graduates us.

It simply
changes
the classroom.

One day
it teaches patience.

Another day,
gratitude.

Then courage.

Then acceptance.

And finally,

the beautiful art
of letting go
without losing
the ability
to love.

So here I stand—

not as a master,

not as a philosopher,

not as one
who knows everything,

but as
a humble traveller,

a curious soul,

and a grateful heart,

still carrying
an invisible school bag

filled with memories,

mistakes,

dreams,

faith,

and hope.

Yes,

I am
a student of Life—

learning
with every sunrise,

growing
through every storm,

and embracing
every lesson

with gratitude,

for as long
as life
allows me
to learn.

  1. I love this reflective poem. It teaches that a successful life is not always measured by college degrees, promotions and possessions, but by degrees of gratitude, happiness, empathy, understanding and humanity. All too many forget their humanity in the pursuit of fame and fortune and leave this world with many possessions but little soul. Have a wonderful day. Allan

  3. Some writings do not seek to impress the mind; they quietly awaken the soul. This beautiful reflection is one of them.

Your poem reminds us that wisdom is never a destination but a lifelong pilgrimage. The most profound teachers are not found only in books, but in ordinary days, silent tears, unexpected joys, and the quiet courage to begin again. I was especially touched by the thought that “life never graduates us; it simply changes the classroom.” What a gentle and timeless truth.

The closing image of carrying an invisible school bag filled with memories, mistakes, dreams, faith, and hope is deeply moving. It reflects the grace of a heart that has discovered that true learning begins where pride ends.

Thank you, Vijay, for sharing a poem that invites us not merely to read, but to pause, reflect, and walk a little more humbly through the endless school of life.

    • Thank you so much. I couldn’t agree more. Kindness is one of the few gifts that costs nothing to give but can mean everything to someone who receives it. If each of us chose a little more kindness every day, the world would surely become a gentler and happier place

    • Thank you so much for your thoughtful and heartfelt words. 🙏

I completely agree with you. True kindness asks for no reward, and whether we see it as a sacrifice or not depends greatly on the humility of our own heart. I also believe that every act of kindness creates a ripple. It may not return from the same person or in the same form, but somehow life has a beautiful way of bringing goodness back to us.

I completely agree with you—life truly is the greatest teacher. The joyful moments give us gratitude, while the difficult ones often give us strength, wisdom, and a deeper understanding of ourselves and others. Your reflection adds even more meaning to the post, and I’m grateful that it resonated with you.
