# I Remember You #

This is a heartfelt poem about the quiet sorrow of being forgotten by someone who once filled your days with love, conversations, and promises.

It explores the pain of unanswered silence, the weight of fading memories, and the enduring hope that even after time and distance, one heartfelt moment can bring the words every waiting heart longs to hear: “I remember you.”

I Remember You

There was a time

when my name
rested gently
upon your lips,

when every sunset
ended with a conversation,

and every tomorrow
began with a promise.

Now—

the days pass
without a single word.

Not because
there is nothing left to say,

but because
I no longer exist
in the story
you are writing.

How quietly
people change.

They do not
slam doors.

They simply
stop knocking.

You have forgotten
every promise
you once made
with such certainty.

The forever
you once spoke of

lasted only
until life
led you
in another direction.

Perhaps
you are angry.

Perhaps
I disappointed you.

Or perhaps—

I am no longer
important enough
to deserve
an explanation.

That thought
hurts the most.

I could have endured
your anger.

I could have accepted
your harsh words.

I could even have survived
your farewell.

But this silence…

this endless,
breathing silence…

has become
the loudest wound
I have ever carried.

You do not ask
how I am.

You do not wonder
whether I still wait.

You do not even complain—

as though
my absence
has become
your peace.

Every night,
I gather
the broken pieces
of conversations
that never happened.

I write replies
to questions
you never ask.

I smile
at memories
that no longer
belong to us.

And still—

some foolish corner
of my heart

keeps listening
for your footsteps,

keeps believing

that one ordinary day,

my phone will ring.

Your voice
will tremble,

and through
the silence
I will hear
the words
I have carried
in my heart
all this time—

“I remember you.”

    • Thank you so much for your kind and heartfelt words. Your thoughtful appreciation truly means a lot to me. I’m grateful that the poem resonated with you and was able to reflect emotions that many of us quietly carry within our hearts. If it reminded even one person that they are not alone in their memories or feelings, then it has fulfilled its purpose.

  2. Verma ji, this poem is absolutely haunting in its beauty. The way you’ve captured the quiet devastation of being erased from someone’s life—not with anger, but with silence—is painfully accurate and deeply moving. ‘They do not slam doors. They simply stop knocking’—that line will stay with me for a very long time.

I admire how you’ve woven tenderness into the sorrow, especially in that final stanza where hope stubbornly refuses to die. The image of your heart still listening for footsteps, still believing in a call that might come—that’s the most human thing I’ve ever read.

You’ve given words to a feeling so many of us carry but cannot name. Thank you for this gift of raw, honest poetry. Your heart speaks loudly through every verse, and I hope you know that even if someone has forgotten you, these words will never be forgotten by those who read them.

    • Thank you from the bottom of my heart for such a beautiful and thoughtful reflection. Your words have touched me as deeply as you say the poem touched you. I’m humbled that lines like “They do not slam doors. They simply stop knocking.” resonated so strongly with you.

As writers, we often give a voice to emotions that quietly live within many hearts. Knowing that you found your own feelings reflected in these verses is one of the greatest compliments I could receive. Your generous encouragement reminds me why I continue to write.
