# Lessons from an Eagle’s Perspective #

“The eagle does not escape the storm; it uses the storm to rise higher.”

Daily writing prompt
If you had to be an animal for a week, which one would you be and why?

Hello dear friends,

I hope this blog finds you in a cheerful mood.

Today’s writing prompt instantly carried me back to childhood, when we would often imagine having magical powers or becoming birds that could fly across mountains and oceans.

Yet this delightful question—“If you had to be an animal for a week, which one would you be and why?”—offers more than a playful escape. It quietly invites us to reflect on the qualities we admire, the life we aspire to live, and the lessons nature has been teaching us all along.

After a moment of reflection, my choice became crystal clear.

I would choose to be an eagle.

Not because it is the king of the skies, but because it symbolizes vision, courage, freedom, resilience, and quiet confidence.

In many cultures, the eagle represents strength that is balanced by wisdom—a rare combination worth aspiring to.

One of the eagle’s most remarkable gifts is its extraordinary vision. It can spot its prey from miles away while soaring effortlessly through the sky.

Imagine seeing the world not through the narrow lens of daily worries but from a breathtaking height where every river, mountain, and forest becomes part of one magnificent picture.

Isn’t that what many of us need today?

We often become consumed by deadlines, misunderstandings, and temporary disappointments, forgetting that life is far greater than today’s challenge.

“Perspective changes everything. The mountain that blocks your path today may become tomorrow’s viewpoint.”

If I could spend a week as an eagle, I would cherish the opportunity to see life from above—not merely with my eyes, but with a broader perspective. Sometimes the answers we seek are not hidden; they simply require us to rise a little higher.

Watching an eagle glide across an endless blue sky is a lesson in effortless grace. It carries no luggage, owns no possessions, and worries about no social status. It simply lives according to nature’s rhythm.

How different our lives have become!

We collect more than we need, rush more than we should, and often mistake busyness for purpose. Somewhere along the way, simplicity became a luxury.

A week as an eagle would remind me that true freedom is not found in owning more but in needing less.

As the great philosopher Lao Tzu wisely said:

“Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.”

Perhaps we humans would live more peacefully if we learned to trust life’s natural pace.

The Free Spirit of an Eagle

One fascinating fact about eagles has always inspired me. Instead of fleeing from storms, they often spread their powerful wings and allow the rising air currents to lift them even higher.

What an extraordinary metaphor for life!

Every one of us encounters storms—failures, heartbreaks, uncertainty, illness, or unexpected setbacks. Our instinct is often to resist or complain. Yet some of life’s greatest transformations begin precisely in those difficult moments.

“Smooth seas do not make skillful sailors, and easy lives seldom shape remarkable souls.”

If I were an eagle, I would welcome the storm not because it is pleasant, but because it teaches resilience. Sometimes adversity is not an obstacle—it is the wind beneath our wings.

Eagles spend much of their lives in peaceful solitude. They are neither lonely nor restless. Their silence is purposeful.

In today’s hyperconnected world, silence has become increasingly rare. Notifications compete for our attention, conversations never seem to end, and moments of stillness often make us uncomfortable.

Yet some of our deepest insights emerge only when we pause.

A week in the quiet skies would allow me to rediscover the joy of simply observing—to listen to the whisper of the wind, the rustle of forests, and the rhythm of nature itself.

As Blaise Pascal observed:

“All of humanity’s problems stem from man’s inability to sit quietly in a room alone.”

There is profound wisdom in learning to enjoy one’s own company.

Living as an eagle would also strengthen my appreciation for the delicate balance of life on Earth. Every creature, whether mighty or microscopic, plays a vital role in sustaining our planet.

Human beings have achieved extraordinary technological progress, yet we remain completely dependent on nature’s generosity. Clean air, flowing rivers, fertile soil, forests, birds, insects, and oceans quietly support every aspect of our existence.

Perhaps if we could spend just one week seeing the world through the eyes of another living creature, we would become kinder guardians of this beautiful planet.

After all, we do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors—we borrow it from future generations.

At the end of my imaginary week, I would gladly return to being human.

For despite all the wonders of the animal kingdom, only human beings possess the extraordinary ability to dream consciously, create art, write poetry, compose music, build civilizations, and choose compassion even in difficult circumstances.

But I would return carrying the eagle’s lessons within me:

  • Rise above temporary distractions.
  • See the bigger picture.
  • Welcome challenges as opportunities for growth.
  • Treasure silence and reflection.
  • Protect the natural world that sustains us.
  • Live with courage, purpose, and grace.

This delightful writing prompt reminds us that the animal we choose often reflects the person we hope to become.

For me, the eagle represents more than majestic flight. It symbolizes the courage to rise above negativity, the wisdom to see beyond the obvious, and the freedom to live with purpose rather than fear.

“You don’t need wings to soar. Sometimes all you need is vision, courage, and the determination to rise after every fall.”

Perhaps that is the greatest lesson of all.

If I had the chance to be an animal for a week, I would choose the eagle—not simply to fly above the clouds, but to return to Earth with a heart that sees farther, thinks deeper, and appreciates life more fully.

What about you, dear friends? If you had the opportunity to become any animal for one week, which one would you choose, and what lesson do you think it would teach you?

I’d truly love to read your thoughts in the comments.

Until next time, keep looking beyond the horizon, keep learning from nature, and keep giving your dreams the wings they deserve.

  2. Dear Verma ji,

What a profoundly beautiful piece of writing! Your words transported me into the sky alongside that eagle, and I must confess—I felt a quiet stir of longing to soar right beside you.

The way you wove together the eagle’s qualities with life’s deepest lessons is nothing short of poetic. Your observation that “the mountain that blocks your path today may become tomorrow’s viewpoint” struck a chord deep within me. How often do we forget that our struggles are simply preparing us for a higher perspective?

I was particularly moved by your reflection on storms becoming teachers. As someone who has faced my share of turbulent times, I’ve often wondered why we resist the very forces that could lift us higher. Your words reminded me that the wind beneath our wings often arrives wrapped in clouds.

And your closing thought—that we return from such an experience with “new wings”—is simply gorgeous. It suggests that transformation isn’t about becoming something else entirely, but about carrying the best of what we’ve learned into our ordinary lives.

If I had to choose, I think I would be a dolphin—to experience the joy of playfulness, the depth of connection, and the wisdom of navigating both light and dark waters with equal grace.

But after reading your piece, I find myself looking up at the sky a little more often, wondering what the eagles see that I cannot.

Thank you for this gift of reflection. Your words will linger with me long after today.

    With gratitude and respect,
    Srikanth

    • Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your incredibly thoughtful and generous words. They truly touched me.

Knowing that my reflections made you feel as though you were soaring beside the eagle is one of the finest compliments a writer could receive. Your interpretation of the mountain becoming tomorrow’s viewpoint and the storm becoming the wind beneath our wings beautifully enriches the very message I hoped to convey.

  3. I never sat down and really thought about it because my high school mascot was the eagle.

I love your perspective. In the Pacific Northwest, we see Eagles often. There are cases where they pick up neighborhood, cats, in their talons.

So the next time I see an eagle, I will look up and give you a furtive magestic wink and know it’s obvious you took your imagination with you
