# I See You in the Mirror #

This poem reflects on resilience and self-discovery. It views life as a quiet friend seen in the mirror—enduring pain and uncertainty but still rising.

Through clear and emotional imagery, it shows how struggles become strength and darkness turns into light.

# I See You in the Mirror #

O, my dear life,
I see you in the mirror again,
In every tear, in every strain.
Not just a face, but something more—
Your quiet strength I can’t ignore.

I’ve seen you smile through heavy rain,
Walk through loss, walk through pain.
Still you rise, still you stay,
Turning night into a softer day.

I never thought the road would bend,
Or find the storm I can’t pretend.
Life would meet me, eye to eye,
And teach me how to never die.

I thought the storms would make me fall,
Break my will, erase it all.
But now I know, with every scar,
You’ve made me who I truly are.

My little boat will not sink low,
It’s learning how the rivers flow.
And every wave that comes my way
Now teaches me to trust the day.

So when I look into that glass,
I don’t see fear from the past.
I see a soul that learned to fight—
And turn its darkness into light.

  1. This is a truly beautiful and moving poem,Verma ji. The way you’ve woven the metaphor of the mirror into a dialogue with life itself is profound. I especially love the imagery of the “little boat” learning to trust the flow of the river—it’s a simple yet powerful reminder that resilience isn’t about fighting the current, but learning to navigate it. The shift from seeing fear in the mirror to seeing a soul that has learned to fight is a testament to your strength and perspective. Thank you for sharing this reflection; it’s a gentle and inspiring reminder of the light we carry within.

    • Thank you so much for your beautiful and thoughtful reflection. 🤍

I’m deeply touched that the poem resonated with you in such a meaningful way. I especially appreciate your understanding of the little boat metaphor. You’re absolutely right—resilience is not always about resisting the current or proving our strength through struggle. Sometimes, it is about learning to trust the river, adapting to its turns, and finding the courage to keep moving forward despite uncertainty.

  4. Beautiful poem Verma. A unique reminder how the mirror has witnessed so many changes in our lives. At the same time, how awesome that we human can transform through every season. That gives me so much hope! We don’t have to stay stagnant, we have the power to grow.

    • Thank you so much for this beautiful reflection. I’m deeply touched that the poem spoke to you in this way. Yes, the mirror quietly bears witness to every version of ourselves—the hopeful child, the uncertain dreamer, the wounded soul, and the person who rises again with greater wisdom and compassion.

  5. It’s learning how the rivers flow.
And every wave that comes my way.

I remember as kid lying in bed after an entire day on the waves.

And somehow, I was still on the wave.

    • What a beautiful image that brings to mind.

As children, we may leave the ocean, dry off, and crawl into bed, yet our bodies still sway with the memory of the waves. It’s almost as if the sea refuses to let go of us completely. I think life is much the same. We carry the rhythm of the rivers we’ve crossed and the waves we’ve ridden long after the moment has passed.

  6. “You’ve made me who I truly are”—how true! All of the doors which open and close in our life are part of the fabric of our being. We are formed by our experiences and it’s beautiful when you can accept it all about yourself as you have in this poem.

    • Thank you so much for your thoughtful words. 🌷

I truly believe that every door that opens invites us into a new chapter, and every door that closes leaves behind a lesson, a scar, or a quiet strength we didn’t know we possessed. Our joys, disappointments, losses, and victories all weave together to create the fabric of who we are.

Acceptance, perhaps, is the most beautiful part of the journey—not celebrating only the polished pieces of ourselves, but embracing the broken, uncertain, and unfinished parts as well. They, too, have shaped us.

    • Thank you so much! 😊

I’m delighted that you found it clever. Life has a funny way of teaching us profound truths through the simplest observations and a touch of humour. Sometimes, if we can smile at our own contradictions and misadventures, the lessons become a little easier to embrace.

  7. A brief poetic interpretation that highlights themes of resilience and self-discovery, using the mirror as a metaphor for life and emphasizing endurance through pain, uncertainty, and personal growth. 🌿✨

    • What a beautiful interpretation.
The mirror becomes more than a reflection of appearance—it transforms into a quiet witness to our journey through life. It reveals not only our scars and uncertainties but also the resilience that carried us through them. Every crack left by pain tells a story of survival, every doubt becomes a stepping stone toward self-discovery, and every passing season shapes a wiser, stronger self.
In learning to meet our own gaze with honesty and compassion, we realize that growth is not the absence of struggle but the courage to keep moving through it. Life’s mirror reminds us that endurance is its own kind of grace, and becoming ourselves is perhaps the most extraordinary journey of all. 🌿✨
