A poem about aging, risk, regret, and resilience. It expresses the thoughts of someone who has faced difficulties and emotions but still chooses growth over comfort and life over fear.
# Before Death Comes #
There comes an age
when you stop pretending
every decision felt right.
I have walked into rooms
that disturbed my peace,
taken risks that left me awake at night,
and smiled through regrets
I could never explain to anyone.
But still—
I would rather bruise my pride
than let my spirit rust in comfort.
At this age,
I no longer fear embarrassment.
I fear becoming still.
So I tested the rivers of life—
cold rivers,
deep rivers,
rivers that stole my certainty
and returned me to myself.
Sometimes, life feels unbearably heavy.
Sometimes, strangely beautiful.
And if I embarrass myself,
let it mean I tried.
Because death will come only once—
but before then,
I intend to live
a thousand difficult, beautiful lives.

Thank you so much for these thoughtful and heartfelt words. ✨
“I fear becoming still” came from a very quiet and honest place within me — that fear of losing movement, growth, emotion, and the will to keep living fully despite everything life brings.

Right on brother! It’s a journey meant for ups and downs!

Absolutely, brother! Life is never a straight road — it bends, climbs, falls, and rises again.
Those ups and downs are what shape our strength, wisdom, and character.
A journey without challenges would never teach us the value of patience, hope, and resilience.

Thank you so much for your kind words 🤍
Yes, I believe that too — to truly live, feel deeply, and embrace life fully is one of our greatest shared desires. Wishing you many beautiful moments along the journey.

That’s true. But one should never be so engrossed in this life to forget about the hereafter. Like a famous saying- own things in life but don’t let things own you. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Very true indeed. Life is meant to be lived with gratitude and awareness, not attachment so deep that we lose sight of what truly matters. Your words beautifully reflect the balance between living in the world and remaining spiritually grounded.

Exactly my friend. It is more important as we grow older. Thank you

Well said. As we grow older, we slowly realize that life is less about rushing and more about cherishing—our moments, our memories, and the people who truly matter. The heart begins to seek peace more than achievement, and connection more than noise.
Thank you for your thoughtful words and warm understanding. They are deeply appreciated. 🌿

What a deeply thought-provoking poem. The lines about choosing to bruise your pride rather than letting your spirit rust in comfort truly hit home. It’s a wonderful reminder that the real fear is becoming still, not embarrassment. Thank you for sharing this beautiful perspective on living a full life.

Thank you , dear for such a thoughtful reflection 🤍
You understood the heart of the poem exactly as I hoped someone might. Sometimes a bruised pride heals quickly, but a spirit that slowly rusts from fear or stillness is much harder to revive. I’m really glad those lines spoke to you in a meaningful way.

Thank you so much. 🤍🌿
I really appreciate you taking the time to reflect on it so thoughtfully. There’s something very human about that balance you mentioned — learning to sit with what’s been, while still finding strength in what remains ahead.
