# My Rule of Life #

A Journey Worth Living

Hello dear friends,
I hope this blog finds you in a cheerful mood. Today’s writing prompt is deeply thoughtful — “My Rule of Life.”

It made me pause and reflect, not just on the rules I follow, but the life I am shaping with them.

Since my retirement, I have consciously embraced a different rhythm — one guided not by deadlines, but by purpose.

I no longer chase clocks; I chase meaning. My “Rule of Life” is not a rigid list of dos and don’ts, but a living, breathing compass that keeps me aligned with joy, wisdom, and peace.

Here are some heartfelt rules that now define the meaningful journey of my retired life:

Every morning, before my feet touch the ground, I whisper a simple “Thank You.”

Gratitude has become my first rule. I’m not just thankful for big things — like good health or loving family — but also for the little wonders: a hot cup of tea, a bird’s song, or the quiet hush of dawn.

Gratitude opens the door to joy, and I make it a habit to walk through that door every single day.

Earlier, life was a blur of deadlines and bank documents. Now, I’ve slowed down enough to notice how fulfilling a simple life can be.

I don’t need luxury to be happy. I find beauty in handwritten letters, home-cooked meals, and unhurried conversations. I’ve made a rule: less clutter, more clarity. The less I own, the more I feel free.

I strongly believe creativity is not just for artists — it’s for everyone.
My daily rule is: create.

It could be a poem, a blog post, a watercolor painting, or even a video — something that brings my soul to life.

Creativity doesn’t just make life colorful; it gives me a reason to get up every morning with excitement.

4. Prioritize Health, Not Just in Body — But in Mind

In earlier years, I took health for granted. But now, I realize how vital it is — especially mental well-being.

My rule is simple: Move every day, Rest well, Eat mindfully, Think positively.
Yoga, walks by the sea, some light exercises, and a peaceful nap are all part of this equation.

I also avoid negative news and gossip. A peaceful mind is worth protecting.

I no longer chase popularity; I value authenticity.

I’ve made a rule to surround myself with people who inspire, uplift, and make me laugh. Be it old friends, curious children, or fellow artists — I treasure real connection.

At this age, I’ve also learned that letting go of toxic relationships is not selfish — it’s self-care.

Retirement is not the end — it’s the beginning of re-tirement — putting on new tires and moving forward.

My rule of life is to be a lifelong learner. I read about philosophy, art, health, spirituality, or even new technology. Learning keeps my mind young and my heart curious.

One of the most fulfilling parts of this chapter in life is giving back.

I believe we rise by lifting others. Whether it’s mentoring a young writer, donating to a cause, or simply sharing kind words — giving is my rule for abundance. The more love I share, the more I receive.

Regret lives in the past. Anxiety lives in the future. But peace lives in the present.
I remind myself daily — this moment is all I truly have.

I try to breathe it in deeply — whether I’m sipping tea with my wife, watching my granddaughter laugh, or simply listening to the rain. This moment is my home.

There are days when life feels uncertain, even in retirement. But I’ve made a sacred rule: Have Faith.

I trust that life unfolds as it should. I’ve seen enough seasons to know that even winter carries the promise of spring.

I lean on God, my inner resilience, and the gentle reminder that everything will be okay.

And finally, I’ve kept the most joyful rule of all: Don’t take life too seriously.

I allow myself to laugh out loud, to dance with my partner even when we miss a step, and to say “I love you” more often. Life is short — but if lived fully, it’s enough.

“My Rule of Life” is not written on paper — it’s etched in experience, love, and reflection.
It’s a map that guides me not to riches, but to richness — of spirit, purpose, and connection.

Dear reader, I invite you to pause and ask: What is your rule of life?
Because sometimes, in answering that question, we find the very meaning of our days.

Warm regards,
Vijay Verma
