# Finding Purpose at 67 ?

Does It Matter to Anyone?

Hello, my friends, I hope this blog finds you in a cheerful mood.

Every day, life offers us many chances, but we often get stuck not in the busyness, but in the quiet. For some, being alone is a choice they enjoy.

But for others, like me, it can feel like a deep canyon—an empty space that goes far beyond the reach of connection.

“Loneliness is not simply the absence of company. It’s the presence of silence when your heart longs for meaning.”

I am 67 years old. Sometimes, I feel like I’m shouting into a canyon, waiting for an echo that never comes.

There are days when everything feels still—no footsteps, no laughter, no phone ringing. Just the quiet passing of time.

Loneliness, I’ve learned, doesn’t always mean being alone. You can be in a crowded room and still feel invisible.

What makes it harder is when you begin to notice the world moving on without you—when your friends fall sick, struggle with memory, or worse, leave forever.

You’re left holding pieces of yesterday, wondering if anyone still sees you, hears you, or needs you.

Today, in a moment of solitude, I had an honest conversation—with myself. I asked, “How do I move forward? How do I find joy in the remaining years when shadows of uncertainty try to linger?”

Surprisingly, my inner self—my oldest friend—responded clearly:

“You have two choices: be sad, or be happy.”

It’s simple, yet profound. The wisdom wasn’t in the complexity of the answer but in the truth it carried.

Life, no matter what age you are, gives you that choice. And that choice becomes more important as the years grow shorter.

Why 67 is Not the End—It’s the Beginning

At 67, society may no longer chase you for your opinions. Your children may be busy weaving their own dreams. Colleagues are now memories, not lunch buddies.

But let’s be honest—67 is not old. Not really. It’s seasoned. It’s knowing. It’s being alive with a bank of stories that can inspire, educate, and heal.

The world may forget us. But we must never forget ourselves. We still have strength. We still have a purpose. We still have value.

Let’s be clear: feeling lonely is not a weakness. It’s human. It’s a cry of the soul asking to reconnect—with people, with purpose, with meaning.

So I made a list—my own antidote to loneliness:

  • Reconnect with people I lost touch with. Even if they don’t respond, I’ll know I tried.
  • Volunteer. There are children needing a patient hand to guide them, elders needing someone to talk to, and causes that need voices like mine.
  • Pick up my forgotten hobbies—writing, painting, music, and gardening. They were never hobbies, really. They were my first friends.
  • Move my body. Whether through yoga, morning walks, or even a slow dance in the living room—movement is a celebration of being alive.
  • Create a calendar full of meaning. Not filled with obligations, but with intentions. Lunch with a neighbor, temple visits, reading a good book, learning something new.

Loneliness cannot survive when life is filled with purpose.

I know this truth now: The world still needs people like us—people who’ve walked the winding roads of life, stumbled, risen again, and learned what matters.

You might be 67, or 77, or even 87. But your experience, your resilience, your empathy—they are treasures.

Instead of asking, “Does anyone care?” — ask yourself, “How can I care more today?”

The answer might change someone’s life—including your own.

I’ve started small. Writing a poem. Smiling at strangers. Helping my neighbor with groceries. These tiny actions are stringing together a rhythm of joy.

Because the more you give, the less you grieve.

So if you’re reading this and you’ve ever felt that pang of loneliness, know this:

You are not alone.

Your heart still beats with purpose. You have stories left to write, kindness left to give, and sunsets left to witness.

Don’t wait for others to notice you.

Step out. Speak up. Reach out.

Fill your days with meaning, and loneliness will no longer have a seat beside you.

I am 67 years old. And I’ve made a choice today—to live the rest of my life, not waiting to be noticed, but choosing to notice the beauty that still surrounds me.

And when I do, I find something wonderful:

I’m not just surviving these years…
I’m beginning to thrive in them.

BE HAPPY… BE ACTIVE… BE FOCUSED… BE ALIVE
