Dear friends,
I hope this blog finds you in a cheerful mood on the eve of Ram Navami. India is a land of festivals, but Ram Navami holds a special place in the hearts of millions.
It is not just a celebration of Lord Ram’s birth; it is a commemoration of righteousness, dharma, and ideal living.
Ram Navami festival falls today, coinciding with the Navami Tithi of Chaitra Shukla Paksha and Pushya Nakshatra. Devotees across the globe mark this divine occasion with bhajans, prayers, and a spirit of devotion.
Let’s explore some lesser-known yet fascinating facts about this auspicious day.
1. Lord Rama was born during Abhijit Muhurat
According to scriptures, Lord Rama was born during Abhijit Muhurat, a spiritually powerful time of the day that aligns with midday.
This period is believed to bring victory and divine blessings, making it ideal for Lord Vishnu’s incarnations.

2. Kanya Pujan: Celebrating the Power of the Feminine Divine
Though Ram Navami primarily commemorates the birth of Lord Rama, an avatar of Vishnu, it is also a sacred occasion to honor the Shakti— the divine feminine energy.
A significant tradition observed on this day, especially in North India, is the Kanya Pujan or Kumari Pooja.
As per Sanatan Dharma, the last day of Navratri—Ram Navami—also marks the culmination of nine days of devotion to Maa Durga in her various forms. Each form represents a unique strength and virtue.
On this day, nine young girls, usually between the ages of 2 to 10, are invited into homes and temples and worshipped as the living embodiments of the Nav Durga.
This ritual isn’t merely symbolic—it is an acknowledgment of the divine potential present in every girl child.
The girls are welcomed with reverence, their feet washed, a tilak is applied to their foreheads, and they are offered prasad, gifts, clothes, and sometimes money as a token of love and respect.
This sacred act not only reflects the respect for feminine power, but also serves as a reminder of our cultural values—to protect, nurture, and honor girl children in every walk of life.
In many homes, including ours, this occasion becomes a joyous gathering filled with laughter, sweets, devotional songs, and heartfelt blessings. It is a moment where tradition meets tenderness, and spirituality embraces simplicity.
The tradition of Kanya Pujan beautifully complements the spirit of Ram Navami—showing that where Rama symbolizes righteousness and virtue, Shakti symbolizes strength and vitality. Together, they create the balance that sustains the world.
3. Sacred dip in the Sarayu River is considered highly auspicious
Devotees in Ayodhya take a holy dip in the Sarayu River on Ram Navami, believing it washes away sins and brings spiritual purification.

4. Celebration of the Suryavanshi legacy
Lord Ram was born in the Suryavansh (Solar Dynasty). Thus, this day is also a celebration of a royal lineage rooted in virtue, valor, and wisdom.
5. South India celebrates Ram Navami as a wedding ceremony
In parts of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, Ram Navami is celebrated as Sita-Rama Kalyanam—the divine marriage of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita—with beautiful rituals and drama performances in temples.
6. Ram Rath Yatra begins on Ram Navami
In several towns and villages, the Ram Rath Yatra—a vibrant chariot procession of Lord Ram—is taken out. It symbolizes Ram’s journey through life and his victory of dharma over adharma.

7. Nepal celebrates with grandeur
In Janakpur, Nepal (the birthplace of Sita), Ram Navami is celebrated with deep reverence. Devotees gather from India and Nepal alike to offer prayers at temples that mark the legendary wedding site.
