# Night Owls vs. Morning Larks #

Daily writing prompt
Are you more of a night or morning person?

Hello, dear friends,

I hope this blog finds you in a cheerful mood. Today’s writing prompt made me pause and reflect: “Are you more of a night or morning person?”

In our fast-paced digital world, this question seems more relevant than ever. While many embrace nocturnal habits fueled by glowing screens and late-night inspiration, there are undeniable charm and health benefits in rising early.

Science categorizes people into two primary chronotypes: morning larks and night owls. Morning larks are those who thrive at dawn, basking in the quietude of the early hours.

They often exhibit better productivity and mental clarity during the first half of the day.

On the other hand, night owls come alive as the sun sets, finding creativity and energy in the moonlight.

With the rise of technology, the night owl lifestyle has gained prominence. Streaming platforms, social media, and remote work have pushed many to adopt late-night habits.

The quiet hours after midnight often feel like a sanctuary for creativity and self-reflection, especially for artists, writers, and thinkers.

But is this nocturnal rhythm sustainable? Research suggests that staying up late consistently can disrupt circadian rhythms, leading to long-term health issues like insomnia, fatigue, and weakened immunity.

For me, mornings hold an unparalleled magic. When I manage to wake up early, I am greeted by the soft golden light of sunrise, the chirping of birds, and a serene stillness that sets the perfect tone for the day.

Early mornings offer:

  • Mental Clarity: With fewer distractions, mornings are ideal for setting goals and planning the day.
  • Health Benefits: Exercising in the morning boosts metabolism and energy levels throughout the day.
  • Time for Reflection: Morning hours often feel sacred, providing the perfect space for meditation or journaling.

However, life isn’t always black and white. There are days when responsibilities or creative pursuits stretch late into the night, making me a temporary night owl.

At times, the silence of the night has helped me pen down heartfelt poems or finish an abstract painting.

Rather than strictly identifying as a lark or an owl, I try to adapt to the situation. If a morning meeting awaits, I make it a point to sleep early and greet the sunrise.

If inspiration strikes late, I allow myself the luxury of nighttime creativity, knowing I’ll balance it out the next day.

Striking a Balance

Ultimately, it’s about finding what works best for your body and mind. Here are a few tips that I follow to strike a balance:

  1. Prioritize Sleep: Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep, regardless of when you go to bed.
  2. Follow a Routine: A consistent bedtime and wake-up schedule can improve sleep quality.
  3. Listen to Your Body: Some days demand early mornings, while others may call for late nights. Honor your natural rhythm without guilt.
  4. Limit Screen Time: Reduce blue light exposure before bedtime to ensure restful sleep.

And finally, I would ask, “Are you a night owl, a morning person, or something in between?” What matters is finding what works for you while maintaining balance and health.

For me, mornings shine with fresh beginnings, but I also appreciate the creativity that comes from a starry night.

So, dear friends, where do you stand on this spectrum? Share your thoughts—morning birds or midnight owls, we all have a story to tell..

  2. I have been a night owl all my life. However, that changed a few years ago. I started a new job a few years back and on day one I started at 6:30.

And I have been doing it ever since. One may surmise that happens as we get older.

    Probably.

So my peak times are now.

    1. Any time post exercise. (fueled by endorphins)

    2. Early morning

3.Or some random burst of energy that I cannot account for.

Rarely does anybody way I am an early afternoon person.

    Cheers

  4. Night Owl 😎 As much as I’d like to spring out of bed with the sunrise and chirping birds… if I do force myself to get up, I’m practically sleepwalking most of the day. I’ve always gotten creative bursts late at night, even back to my University days 👍
