#Swimming: A Blue Water Experience

A Blue Water Experience

Hello, dear friends,

I hope this blog finds you in a cheerful mood! Today, I want to share my journey with swimming – a passion that has brought immense physical and mental benefits into my life.

Recently, I have embraced swimming as part of my morning routine, teaming up with a group of friends from our neighborhood.

After our morning walk, we dive into the “Blue Water” experience together, bringing a joyful start to our days.

Swimming is one of the most rewarding exercises I’ve come across. It’s suitable for people of all ages and has proven to be a fantastic full-body workout.

Not only does it strengthen muscles and improve cardiovascular health, but it also provides significant mental health benefits.

I’d like to share my story and the various health benefits I’ve experienced from regular swimming.

I learned to swim at the age of 63 as part of my journey to lose weight. Before this, the closest I’d come to swimming was dipping my ankles in a pool while watching my granddaughter swim!

But once I began, I found myself drawn into the experience. Now, at 66, I swim five days a week, and it’s truly transformed my health and social life.

The decision to swim was inspired by my doctor’s advice, who suggested that swimming, along with a morning walk, could help control weight.

In our apartment complex, there is a beautiful pool where I used to watch others swim gracefully. I would wonder, “Why don’t I give it a try?”

With encouragement and guidance from a young friend, I began my journey.

At first, my goal was modest – to swim just one lap. Gradually, I increased this to five laps, then seven, ten, and eventually, I was doing up to 20 laps.

Although I don’t always reach this number due to time constraints, each session brings a sense of accomplishment. This journey has taught me that it’s never too late to start prioritizing health!

If you’re considering incorporating swimming into your life, here are a few tips that have helped me make it a lasting habit:

  • Commit Fully to the Decision
Once you decide to swim, don’t give yourself the option to back out. Put your mind to it, because consistency is key.
  • Having friends who are equally passionate about swimming has helped me stay motivated, even on days when I feel like skipping.
  • Exercise with a Community
Swimming with friends has made a huge difference. I’ve built a community within our apartment complex where we engage in various physical activities together.
  • Our group, affectionately called the “Naughty Five” (even though there are more than five of us now), swims five days a week, practices yoga three times weekly and goes for regular long walks.
  • The social time between laps adds a joyful element to our fitness routines.
  • Incorporate Exercise into Your Routine
By blending my social life with my exercise routine, I have ensured that physical activity is part of my weekly plan.
  • Research shows that even small amounts of daily exercise, especially vigorous activities like brisk walking, can reduce health risks.
  • So, having an active routine, with friends for support, keeps the energy high and makes each day fulfilling.
  • Focus on How You Feel, Not Just How You Look
When we first started, we saw young kids confidently swimming laps in the same pool. –
  • My friends and I would laugh, saying, “If they can do it, why can’t we?” Learning to focus on how swimming makes us feel rather than worrying about appearances has kept us moving forward.

As we age, feeling energetic and healthy becomes much more valuable than achieving any specific look.

The benefits of swimming are truly amazing. This low-impact exercise is gentle on the joints yet provides a comprehensive workout for the entire body.

Swimming has helped me improve my cardiovascular health, build strength, and stay flexible.

Moreover, the soothing effect of water has brought me peace and relaxation, lifting my mood and reducing stress.

Swimming is a powerful exercise for mental well-being as well. The rhythmic motion of each stroke is almost meditative, helping to clear my mind and focus on the present.

This “Blue Water” time has become my personal space for reflection, gratitude, and connecting with nature.

Yes friends, embracing swimming has enriched my life in so many ways, from physical health to social bonds. It’s never too late to dive into a new experience, prioritize well-being, and enjoy the beautiful benefits of water exercise.

I hope my story inspires you to take the plunge, and if you ever find yourself near a pool, maybe consider joining in for a refreshing swim.

BE HAPPY….BE ACTIVE….BE FOCUSED….BE ALIVE…
