“Friends, in yesterday’s blog, I discussed my visit to Darjeeling. After enjoying the beautiful weather and sights of Darjeeling, this morning we had to head back home toward Siliguri.
Our driver suggested that while returning, why not stop at Kurseong on the way back to Siliguri?
I had heard a lot about the beauty of Kurseong, so my wife and I decided to also enjoy the charm of Kurseong on our way back home. After an hour’s journey, we reached Kurseong.
Nestled amidst the verdant hills of West Bengal, Kurseong is a picturesque paradise for nature enthusiasts like myself. It is aptly nicknamed the “Land of White Orchids,” and it certainly lives up to its name with its lush green tea gardens that cover the slopes.
The misty hills whisper secrets in the cool breeze, offering a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Imagine our delight
Imagine our delight – a chance to experience Kurseong firsthand. Lush green tea estates carpeted the slopes, while misty mountains whispered secrets in the cool breeze.
The climate was a welcome embrace, and with clear skies unveiling stunning vistas, we knew we’d chosen the perfect time to visit.
Unlike the bustling Darjeeling, Kurseong boasts a tranquil pace. This little gem perched on the Siliguri-Darjeeling highway is famed for its cascading waterfalls, serene temples, and Buddhist gompas that emanate a sense of serenity.
While the monsoon season can transform Kurseong into a land of refreshing downpours (essential for the local flora and fauna!), we were fortunate to be blessed with clear and pleasant weather during our visit.

The Enchanting Journey Continues
The magic of Kurseong lingers, and I can’t wait to share more about my exploration of this hidden gem in the next blog! But for now, let me paint a more vivid picture of our unforgettable day trip.

A Feast for the Senses
Get ready to be mesmerized by the stunning panorama of Kurseong. Visualize a beautiful tapestry of green tea plantations and lush forests, all set against the stunning backdrop of snow-capped mountains.
As we breathed in the fresh air, we lost ourselves in the sheer beauty of our surroundings. As the sun slowly disappeared below the horizon, the sky burst into a display of colours, painting the scene with an ethereal glow.

A Spiritual Stopover: The Hanuman Temple
Being devotees of Lord Hanuman, our first stop was the magnificent Hanuman Temple. This colossal 108-foot statue was constructed by the Gorkha Territorial Administration.
It was inaugurated in 2021 on the auspicious occasion of Sri Hanuman Jayanti. It was a truly awe-inspiring sight, and we captured the moment for our memories.
Echoes of the Past: Colonial Charm
Kurseong’s colonial past is evident in its charming churches and schools, remnants of a bygone era. This captivating little town is a perfect stopover for travelers like us, seeking a peaceful alternative to the more touristy Darjeeling.
Since the British Raj, this tiny haven has attracted visitors. Fascinated by its beauty, they constructed several heritage bungalows and rest houses, which still stand tall, whispering stories of the past.

A Boater’s Paradise: Eagle Rock
We took a short drive to reach Eagle Rock, a stunning viewpoint that provides panoramic views of the surrounding hills. We rented a paddleboat and glided across the serene lake while the gentle lapping of water against the hull created a symphony of tranquility.
As we paddled further, the majestic Kanchenjunga peak emerged from behind the clouds, reminding us of nature’s raw power with its snow-clad summit that took our breath away.
A Walk Through Time: The Kurseong Museum
To delve deeper into the town’s history, we visited the Kurseong Museum. Housed in a heritage building, the museum’s collection of artifacts, photographs, and documents chronicles the region’s rich past, from the colonial era to the present day.

A Serene Escape: The Dow Hill Tea Gardens
No visit to Kurseong is complete without experiencing its famed tea estates. We spent a delightful afternoon strolling through the sprawling Dow Hill Tea Gardens, learning about the tea-making process from friendly locals.
The air was filled with the intoxicating aroma of freshly plucked tea leaves, and the vibrant green landscape was a photographer’s paradise.

Farewell, Kurseong
Saying goodbye to Kurseong was a mix of emotions. The town’s peaceful atmosphere, stunning views, and friendly people had made a significant impact on us.
However, as we started our journey towards Siliguri, we promised ourselves to come back someday and explore more of this captivating “Land of White Orchids.”
Stay tuned for the next chapter of our adventure, where we’ll explore the hidden gems and unforgettable experiences that Kurseong has to offer.
