A Mesmerizing Journey to Araku Valley

Rediscovering Vizag

Today, after a long time, I found myself immersed in the pages of my old diary, reliving the memories of a visit to Vizag.

The city, often referred to as the City of Destiny, held a special place in my heart, and as I flipped through the pages, the vivid details of our exploration unfolded before me.

The reminiscence began with the photographs capturing small waterfalls, sea beaches, and the natural beauty that adorned the surroundings of Vizag.

That particular day stands out in my memory, a day when we embarked on a journey to Araku Valley, a pristine hill station nestled at an elevation of about 3000 feet above sea level.

The excitement began early in the morning as my family and I set out from our hotel in Vizag, anticipating a three-hour drive that would take us through the dense forests of the Eastern Ghats mountain range.

The winding roads brought with them the exhilarating chills of adventure, navigating through zigzag curves that painted the landscape with anticipation.

Our first stop in Araku Valley was the renowned Bora Caves, a hill station and tourist hotspot. Considered one of India’s largest and deepest caves, Bora Caves unveiled a mesmerizing world of cave formations in various shapes and sizes.

The unique geological wonders left us awe-inspired, as we ventured through the intriguing labyrinth of these natural formations.

The adventure continued with a visit to Araku Waterfall, a tranquil haven that required a 15-minute trek to reach its breathtaking beauty. The effort was rewarded with the sight of cascading water amidst lush greenery – a spectacle that left an indelible mark on our memories.

The immersive experience of being surrounded by nature’s wonders added a touch of serenity to our journey.

The Tribal Museum became our next destination, offering a unique insight into the lifestyle and culture of Araku Valley through its historical past.

The museum was a captivating journey through time, providing a deeper understanding of the region’s traditions and heritage. It was a delightful opportunity to connect with the roots of this picturesque valley.

Midday hunger pangs led us to a culinary adventure with the famous Bongulo Chicken – a renowned dish of Araku known for its unique preparation.

Intrigued by the cooking method, we indulged our taste buds in this local delicacy, savoring the flavors that had become a must-try for every visitor. It was a gastronomic experience that added a delicious chapter to our Araku escapade.

Our journey continued to the Padmpuram Botanical Garden, a significant part of Araku Valley’s historical legacy. The garden not only boasted rare flowers and trees but also held historical significance as a supplier of vegetables during World War II.

However, the area was later turned into a fully-fledged botanical garden that featured beautiful tree huts, and statues with greenery all around.

A toy train service was available there. We sat on the toy train and enjoyed the view of the entire Botanic Garden.

As the day unfolded, our journey through Araku Valley became a tapestry of memorable experiences.

From the unique geological wonders of Bora Caves to the serenity of Araku Waterfall, the cultural richness of the Tribal Museum, the gastronomic delights of Bongulo Chicken, and the historical treasures of the Botanical Garden – each moment contributed to an adventurous saga etched in our hearts.

Really, it was one of the most memorable trips. I enjoyed very much this super place. We also enjoyed special and tasty food like famous Bamboo chicken and boiled sweet corn.

I encourage everyone to embark on a similar exploration, allowing the beauty of Araku Valley to unfold before them time and again. This enchanting place, with its unique blend of nature, culture, and history, promises an adventure that lingers in the soul.
