# Unfurling Memories: A Republic Day

Friends, today marks the 75th Republic Day, a celebration that resonates with the spirit of a united and proud India. On this day in 1950, our Constitution, the bedrock of our nation, came into effect under the visionary guidance of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

It’s a day of joy and enthusiasm as we reflect on the principles, duties, and rights enshrined in our constitution, shaping the identity of every Indian citizen.

Honoring and upholding this constitution is not just a responsibility but a fundamental duty for all citizens. At our bank branches, the tricolor flag used to be proudly hoisted, and sweets were shared as we commemorate the significance of this day.

Allow me to share an incident that unfolded during my time at the Muzaffarpur branch, where I found myself in an unexpected predicament.

As the branch manager was on leave, I was tasked with the responsibility of hoisting the flag on Republic Day. However, a dilemma arose as I needed to travel to Patna on that Saturday evening, but who would take down the flag in the evening, as required by law.

A creative solution emerged from an unexpected source – our branch security guard. He offered to take down the flag in the evening and secure it at the branch, even though he resided a few kilometers away. Relieved by this suggestion, I hoisted the tricolor and set off for Patna, anticipating a smooth celebration.

However, fate had other plans. In an unforeseen turn of events, the guard fell ill, and his condition prevented him from fulfilling his promise. As there was no mobile phone 30 years back time, only a trunk call was the option for instant communication.

Yes, I received the news through a trunk call at 5 PM. The guard’s fever was too high for him to inform me in time.

Realizing the urgency of the situation, I faced a dilemma. If I hurried back to Muzaffarpur, I would arrive late, risking legal consequences.  if I didn’t, take down the flag within the legally permitted time I would have to face legal action for this mistake.

Opting for the only feasible solution, I rushed back to the branch with a sense of anxious anticipation. En route, thoughts of potential repercussions occupied my mind.

Upon reaching the branch around 8 PM, my anxiety heightened when I discovered the flag missing. Just as panic set in, a familiar face, Madan Babu, approached me. He lived in the adjacent building and immediately noticed my distressed demeanor.

In a surprising revelation, Madan Babu informed me that he had taken down the flag in the evening and safely secured it. Relief washed over me, and I couldn’t help but smile at the unexpected twist that had unfolded.

As we celebrate the 75th Republic Day, let us remember such moments that reflect not just challenges but also the resilience and unity that define our nation.

Join us in witnessing history unfold—a tapestry woven with pride, unity, and the indomitable spirit of India. JAI HIND.
