Early Life and Name Change:
Born in 1911 in Satlakha, Madhubani district, Baba Nagarjun, initially named Thakkan Mishra, faced adversity early in life. His mother passed away when he was just six, and his father, Gokul Mishra, carried him from village to village amid financial struggles.
His early name was believed to protect him from the evil eye, later changing to Vaidyanath Mishra, signifying divine grace.
Educational Journey and Activism:
Nagarjun’s brilliance shone through despite financial constraints. After initial education in his village, he pursued Sanskrit studies in Varanasi, developing an interest in Buddhist philosophy influenced by Arya Samaj.
Inspired by Subhas Chandra Bose and driven by the freedom movement, he ventured across Kolkata, South India, and eventually to “Vidyalyankar Parivena” in Lanka, where he studied Buddhist philosophy and global politics.
Returning to India in 1938, Nagarjun’s life took a turn towards activism. Influenced by Swami Sahajanand Saraswati, he actively participated in the Bihar Kisan Andolan (Bihar Farmers’ Movement), enduring hardships, physical abuse, and imprisonment.
Literary Contributions:
Nagarjun’s literary legacy is vast and profound. He wrote prolifically in Hindi and Maithili, with original works also in Sanskrit and Bengali.
Under the pseudonym “Yatri,” he made significant contributions to Maithili literature. His poetic works, including “Yatripan,” reflect his deep understanding of diverse philosophies, blending influences from Kalidasa and Vidyapati.
Awards and Recognition:
Baba Nagarjun received numerous accolades for his literary contributions. The Sahitya Akademi Award in 1969 for “Patra Hin Nagn Gaach” in Maithili was among his notable honors.
Other recognitions include the Bharat Bharti Samman, Maithili Sharan Gupta Award, Rajendra Shikhar Samman, Sahitya Akademi’s highest fellowship, and the Rahul Sankrityayan Award.
Versatility and Impact:
Nagarjun’s literary prowess extended beyond Hindi to Maithili, Bengali, Sanskrit, and other languages. His writings reflected the entire Indian poetic tradition, influenced by Buddhism, Marxism, and various philosophies.
His command over language, from colloquial expressions to scholarly vocabulary, set him apart as a unique intellectual poet.

Good information about Nagarjuna.Some times I think that how people were going to abroad for reading.Had there any scholarships scheme at that time.At our time we faced problem in studying in our own district.
