The origins of World Mental Health Day can be traced back to 1992 when the World Federation for Mental Health decided to designate October 10th as a day dedicated to mental health awareness.

Initially, this day did not have a specific theme; instead, its focus was to promote mental health advocacy and educate the public about pertinent issues.

However, as the campaign gained momentum, the need for a unifying theme became apparent. In 1994, the first theme was introduced: “Improving the Quality of Mental Health Services throughout the World.”
