#An Unexpected Adventure#

 Once upon a Time

As I sat down to write about my overseas journey, memories flooded back to a time when the world seemed full of possibilities. It was a dream come true for me – the opportunity to visit Singapore and Malaysia just before my retirement. I hope you’ll join me on this exciting journey that always brings a smile to my face.

A few years ago, my retirement was approaching, and the bank offered me a final Leave Fare Concession (LFC) trip. It was my last chance to travel abroad using the bank’s provided funds.

At home, my children began insisting that we go on an international trip. However, I was hesitant, primarily because I have never been a fan of air travel.

Friends, The idea of flying had always made me nervous. Yes. I know that being scared of flying is silly thing, but it seems I was suffering from Aerophobia.  Even a short domestic flight from Delhi to Mumbai would set my heart racing.

The thought of being in the air for hours due to long distance, as required for an international trip, was daunting.

However, my family’s insistence and the lure of exploring foreign lands eventually won me over.

I applied for Leave Fare Concession (LFC) from my bank just before my retirement. This was my last chance to travel abroad, courtesy of the bank’s generous offer. My children had been pestering me for a foreign trip, and I had been avoiding the idea. However,

I finally agreed, telling myself that millions of people flew every day, so why should I be afraid?

The journey began in Kolkata, with my wife and younger son accompanying me.

We reached the airport, and everything seemed fine until an unexpected obstacle presented itself. While coming to the airport, a cat had crossed our path, and the car driver had to slam on the brakes.

The sudden halt gave me a sinking feeling, and I had already convinced myself that this was a sign I shouldn’t go on the trip. But my children’s excitement prevailed.

An Adventurous Journey to Remember

As we arrived at Kolkata Airport, we were filled with anticipation. Our flight was scheduled for 12.00 in the night. We waited in the lounge, and at finally Boarded on plane.

Everything seemed normal, but suddenly the announcement came: “Please fasten your seatbelts due to adverse weather conditions.”

Panic coursed through me as the plane seemed to hit turbulence. My heart pounded, and I couldn’t help but fear the worst.

The cabin crew’s announcement soon followed, reassuring us that the turbulence was due to bad weather. I tried to peer out of the window, but it was pitch dark outside. It was midnight, and we were still in the air. I was beginning to regret my decision for this journey.

Anyhow, we finally landed safely in Singapore at around 5:30 AM local time.

The view of dawn breaking over the city brought relief and a sense of awe. We collected our luggage and waited for the car that was supposed to take us to our hotel.

However, as time passed, and we were waiting for Car from the tour and travel, but there was no sign of any vehicle or our tour guide available there.

Panic set in. Our attempts to call the tour operator failed due to international call restrictions. I was on foreign soil and unable to move further on my own.

Then, a man approached me and asked if I was Rajesh Kumar.

I denied and said no, I am not Rajesh Kumar.

An hour passed, and I was under anxiety about what to do.

Suddenly, a man looking Indian approached me and asked, “Are you Vijay Verma?”

“Yes, Yes,” I confirmed my identity, and I was explaining that some person approached me time again inquiring about whether I am Rajesh Kumar.

Then, we all piled into a mini-bus, and Rajesh explained that he was from Ranchi and had the same tour package as us. The confusion had arisen because of the mix-up with our names.

The tour package was booked in my name by the Travel Agent. That is why the driver was expecting you as Rajesh Kumar, but My flight was delayed by an hour, and so this situation has been created. Finally, everything made sense.

From Kolkata to Singapore

Our journey continued, and we joined another family, becoming part of a shared adventure. Rajesh’s story and the mix-up added an unexpected twist to our trip, and we shared many laughs along the way.

The journey took us through the enchanting streets of Singapore and the stunning landscapes of Malaysia. We explored iconic landmarks, tasted exotic cuisine, and marveled at the cultural diversity of these two beautiful countries.

In the end, the adventure proved to be far more rewarding than I had ever imagined. It was a journey filled with laughter, newfound friendships, and a sense of accomplishment. Overcoming my fear of flying and experiencing the magic of foreign lands was a life-changing experience.

the most unforgettable adventures

As I look back on that trip, I can’t help but smile. It was a journey that transported me to a world where dreams come true, proving that sometimes, stepping out of your comfort zone can lead to the most unforgettable adventures.

Yes, friends, my family and I made memories that will last a lifetime, and I am grateful for the push from my children to embark on this incredible journey.

It was a journey that taught me that sometimes, the furthest you travel from home is not just a physical distance but a journey of self-discovery and personal growth.
