Friends,
We need proper and adequate nutrients for a healthy and active life. What to take in food and when to take it is very important. Consumption of curd with Jaggery is beneficial for our health.
Yes, I use Jaggery with curd in my breakfast on daily basis. This is my favorite dish. Jaggery with curd, also known as “Gud and Dahi” is a popular and traditional food combination in many parts of India.
While it may seem like an unusual pairing, there are actually many health benefits to be gained from consuming jaggery with curds.
In this blog, we will explore the various health benefits of this unique food combination.

What is Jaggery?
Jaggery is a traditional form of unrefined sugar that is made by boiling sugarcane juice or palm sap until it thickens and solidifies. It is commonly used as a sweetener in many Indian dishes and is often added to teas and desserts.
Jaggery is rich in minerals like iron, magnesium, and potassium, and it is also a good source of antioxidants. Unlike refined sugar, which is stripped of its nutritional content during processing, jaggery retains its natural vitamins and minerals, making it a healthier alternative to regular sugar.

What are Curds?
Curds, also known as yogurt, is a dairy product that is made by fermenting milk with a combination of bacteria. Curds are a good source of protein, calcium, and probiotics, which are beneficial bacteria that help to maintain a healthy gut.
Health Benefits of Jaggery with Curds:
Promotes Digestive Health
The combination of jaggery and curds is an effective natural remedy for digestive issues like constipation and indigestion. Jaggery is a natural laxative that helps to regulate bowel movements and promote healthy digestion, while the probiotics in curds help to maintain a healthy balance of gut bacteria.
Regulate heart function and blood pressure
Jaggery is a good source of potassium, which may help regulate heart function and blood pressure. Additionally, the potassium content in jaggery may help reduce the risk of cardiac diseases. The presence of magnesium may help in protecting the blood vessels. Therefore, there is a possibility that the consumption of jaggery may positively impact the heart, but we need more human studies to support these claims.

Boosts Immunity
Jaggery is rich in antioxidants, which help to boost the immune system and protect the body against harmful toxins and free radicals. The probiotics in curds also help to support a healthy immune system by strengthening the gut barrier and preventing harmful bacteria from entering the body.
Provides Energy
Jaggery is a good source of carbohydrates, which provide the body with a quick and sustained source of energy. This makes jaggery with curds an excellent pre-workout snack that can help to boost energy levels and improve athletic performance.
Regulates Blood Sugar
Jaggery has a low glycemic index, which means that it is absorbed slowly by the body and does not cause a rapid spike in blood sugar levels. This makes it a healthier alternative to regular sugar, which can cause fluctuations in blood sugar levels. The combination of jaggery and curds can also help to regulate blood sugar levels by improving insulin sensitivity and reducing inflammation in the body.

Supports Bone Health
Curds are a good source of calcium, which is essential for healthy bones and teeth. Calcium is also important for muscle and nerve function, and it can help to reduce the risk of osteoporosis and other bone-related conditions.
Improves Skin Health
Jaggery is rich in antioxidants, which can help to protect the skin from damage caused by harmful toxins and free radicals. The probiotics in curds also help to maintain a healthy balance of gut bacteria, which is important for skin health.
Jaggery with curds is a traditional Indian food combination that offers many health benefits. The combination of jaggery and curds can help to promote digestive health, boost immunity, provide energy, regulate blood sugar, support bone health, and improve skin health.
If you are looking for a healthy and nutritious snack that is both tasty and beneficial for your health, consider trying jaggery with curds. However, it is important to note that jaggery is still a form of sugar and should be consumed in moderation as part of a balanced diet.

Nice write up. I remember, in our native village, when you reach someone’s house, they first offer jaggery with water – stating that it gives instant energy. And it does.

Yes, you are very correct.
In our village, we serve curd with water called Lassi.
I like this very much. Thanks for sharing your feelings.
