# Golden Boy of India #

Hello friends.

Today, I am very happy to see the news about ideal Golden Boy of our country.. Yes, I am talking about Neeraj Chopra who has been recommended for this year’s KHEL RATNA award. I had already posted one Blogged about him earlier, the link of which given below,

https://wp.me/pbyD2R-3Dj

….. I again blogged about him not only to congratulate him but also because he has inspired us with their dedication and commitment towards the game..

I had read in the newspaper somedays before that the auction Olympian Neeraj Chopra’s javelin had made a bid for  Rs. 5.00 crores. That shows the sentiment towards Neeraj Chopra.

This star javelin thrower had gifted his sports equipment to PM Narendra Modi. We should learn something from our national Hero Neeraj Chopra.

There was my commitment to write about the struggle and success story of my Olympic player, as such I am going to discuss here about the journey and struggle of Neeraj Chopra.

Neeraj Chopra, a man of magnitude has made history in the Tokyo games with his javelin. The whole nation is still celebrating that, amazed by his feet and his humility.

In an interview, Neeraj Chopra had said — I have already won Gold at the CWG (Gold Coast 2018) and Asian Games (Jakarta 2018) and now an Olympic gold in Tokyo. My next target is to win gold at world championship next year.

I am not going to be content with this Olympic gold and sit on my laurels. I would like to do even better and win gold again at the next year’s CWG and Asian Games and Olympics 2024. That should be the feat.

The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) announce that August 7 will be celebrated as the National Javelin Day to honour the Neeraj Chopra’s memorable feat.

As we all know that Success usually comes down to choosing the pain of discipline over the ease of distraction. And that is exactly what delayed gratification is all about. This is very much applicable with our Golden Star Neeraj Chopra ..There is a beautiful story of marshmallow experiment which find relevant in this matter.. please read the story as ..

There is a famous Stanford social experiment called marshmallow experiment. They got children between age of three and five and placed a marshmallow on the table in front of them. Marshmallow is a kind of candy which children are really fond of.

At this point, the researcher offered a deal to the children, they told kids that they will leaving the room, and if they don’t touch marshmallow in front of them, if they don’t eat marshmallow in front of them, then the kid would be rewarded with the second marshmallow when they are back.

So choice was simple, one treat right now or two treats later.

Researcher left the room for 15 minutes.  Some kids jumped up and ate the first marshmallow as soon as they closed the door, others wiggled and eventually gave into temptation a few minutes later and finally, a few of the children did manage to wait the entire time.

Researcher took their names noted. Children grew up.

Later, the researchers conducted follow up studies and tracked each child’s progress in a number of areas. What they found was surprising..

The children who were willing to delay gratification and wait to receive the second marshmallow ended up having higher test scores, lower level of substance abuse, lower likelihood of obesity, better response to stress, better social skills and generally better scores in a range of other life measures.

They follow these children for years and found that ability to delay gratification is critical for success in life. The real researcher professor Walter Michel came up with the theory after the study.

It is called the marshmallow theory. it states the person who cannot be patient for 15 minutes can never move forward in life. And if you look around, you will see this playing out everywhere.

If you delay the gratification of .. say, watching television and if you do your homework, then you will learn more and get better grades.

If you delay the gratification of buying sweets and chips at the store, then you will eat healthier when you get home. If you delay the browsing social media all day long, you will be more productive in your life. So many examples like this.

Success usually comes down to choosing the pain of discipline over the ease of distraction. And that is exactly what delayed gratification is all about.

In other words, you have to pay the price, that is applicable to Neeraj Chopra also , as I was recently watching a video of our Olympics gold medal winner Neeraj Chopra of his training schedule. It is mind blowing.

If you want something worthwhile, significant in life, you must be willing to pay the price.

Neeraj Chopra in one of his interviews said — he switched off his phone for almost a year while he was in Sweden for training. He uses to phone only to call his mother. When you have that kind of commitment, focus, dedication, and if you are ready to delay your gratification for a greater reward, you will become one in a billion.

The ability to be disciplined and take action instead of becoming distracted and doing what is easy is actually the secret of success in life.

Success in nearly every field need some form of discipline. So, we have to invest our time, effort and energy with discipline..

Yes, Patience pays. But unfortunately, we are living in the world right now which is like, enjoy right now and pay later.

This is the world of credit cards and EMI, the world of instant gratifications. Everything is just one click away. we are becoming more and more impatient as a generation.

There is a price to pay to get something significant.  the price can be our discipline, determination dedication, commitment hard work and focus. And that is simply the way life works.

Shortcuts and hacks do not help us in long run. And   more than that, when things come easy to us when it is free, we don’t value it…. Is not it ?

Please share your opinion in the matter that will boost my confident to write about other national Hero.
