How do you define success in life.

Hello, dear friends!

I hope this Blog finds you in a cheerful mood.

Today’s writing prompt question is very interesting, as I read: “How do you define success in life?”

Have you ever paused for a moment and asked yourself whether you are truly successful? Is success about earning a fortune, owning a beautiful house, achieving a prestigious position, or receiving recognition from society?

Or is it something deeper, something that brings peace to our hearts and a smile to our faces?

For me, success is not merely about reaching a destination; it is about enjoying the journey and becoming a better human being along the way.

We often measure success using society’s yardsticks—money, power, status, and achievements. Although these things can provide comfort and opportunities, they do not necessarily guarantee happiness.

For a student, success may mean passing an examination. For a parent, it may mean seeing children become responsible individuals. For an entrepreneur, it may mean building a successful business. For someone struggling with illness, simply waking up with renewed strength may be a victory worth celebrating.

“Success is not measured by what you possess, but by the person you become.”

We must remember that every individual has a different starting point, different challenges, and different dreams. Comparing our journey with someone else’s is unfair to ourselves.

Having worked as a banker for more than three decades, I understand the importance of dedication, discipline, and responsibility. Professional life teaches us to set targets, overcome challenges, and celebrate achievements.

However, retirement in 2017 taught me another valuable lesson: our identity is much bigger than our profession.

When the familiar routine of office life ended, a new chapter began. Blogging, writing books, sketching, painting, practising yoga, walking, and playing table tennis became meaningful parts of my life.

Every new blog published, every painting completed, and every game played with enthusiasm reminds me that life continues to offer opportunities for growth.

I have learned that success does not retire when we leave our jobs. Rather, we must redefine it according to our changing circumstances.

“Retirement from a job should never mean retirement from life.”

Imagine having a luxurious house but nobody with whom to share your happiness. Imagine earning millions but having no time for your family. Would that really be success?

Our relationships give life its warmth and meaning. The love of our spouse, the laughter of our grandchildren, the guidance of our elders, and the companionship of genuine friends are treasures that money cannot replace.

Being available when someone needs us, listening without judging, forgiving a mistake, and offering a helping hand are achievements that may never appear on a certificate but remain etched in people’s hearts.

At the end of our journey, we may forget many awards and possessions, but we will remember the people who loved us and the lives we touched.

We sometimes postpone happiness until we achieve something extraordinary. We tell ourselves that we will celebrate when we get a promotion, buy a house, travel abroad, or accomplish a major goal.

But why wait?

Getting out of bed with a positive attitude, completing our morning walk, learning a new skill, helping a neighbour, or spending quality time with family can also be reasons to celebrate.

Success is built through small, consistent actions. It requires courage to begin, patience to continue, and humility to learn from failure.

As the saying goes, “Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.”

Let us appreciate our daily progress instead of waiting for occasional grand achievements.

What is the value of success if we sacrifice our health, lose our peace of mind, and become strangers to our loved ones?

True success must include physical well-being, emotional balance, intellectual growth, and inner contentment. We should remain curious, keep our bodies active, nourish our minds, and make room for gratitude.

We cannot control every situation, but we can often choose how we respond to it. Accepting life’s uncertainties, learning from setbacks, and maintaining hope help us move forward with greater confidence.

Success is not about living a problem-free life; it is about developing the strength and wisdom to face life’s problems.

Dear friends, if I had to define success in one sentence, I would say:

“Success is living with purpose, loving with sincerity, learning continuously, helping others whenever possible, and ending each day with a grateful heart.”

We do not need to become famous to make a difference. We do not need to be wealthy to be generous. We do not need to be perfect to be happy.

Let us set meaningful goals, celebrate our achievements, learn from our mistakes, and appreciate the blessings already present in our lives.

Remember, success is not a competition in which we must defeat others. It is a personal journey in which we strive to become better than we were yesterday.

Dear friends, life is too precious to spend it chasing somebody else’s definition of success. Discover what truly matters to you, nurture your relationships, take care of your health, pursue your passions, and spread happiness wherever you go.

One day, when we look back at our lives, may we feel proud not merely of what we achieved, but also of how we lived.

And perhaps the most beautiful measure of success is this: we are at peace with ourselves, grateful for what we have, hopeful about tomorrow, and happy to be alive today.

BE HAPPY… BE ACTIVE… BE FOCUSED… BE ALIVE!

  1. I agree! Success is hard to define and depends on the person. For some it’s relationships, for others, it’s what they did during their career. But it can also be a combination of different things. Even the small moments in life can be success, like being able to spend quality time with someone special.
