Hello, dear friends,
I hope this Blog finds you in a cheerful mood.
Today’s writing prompt asks a fascinating question:
“What’s a country that’s at the top of your bucket list?”
I smiled when I read it because, for me, travel has never been merely about ticking destinations off a list. It is about curiosity, discovery, nature, culture, people—and sometimes, discovering a different version of ourselves.
At this stage of life, I don’t want to travel merely to say, “I have been there.” I want to return saying, “I have experienced something there.”
“We travel not to escape life, but to make life richer.”

❤️ Why Malaysia?
If I had to choose one country near the top of my bucket list, Malaysia would certainly be a strong contender.
Why Malaysia?
Because it seems to offer a beautiful combination of things I enjoy: nature, culture, food, history, modern cities and peaceful landscapes.
I imagine walking through the vibrant streets of Kuala Lumpur, looking up at the magnificent Petronas Twin Towers, and then escaping into the quiet embrace of green forests and mountains.
Malaysia also fascinates me because of its cultural diversity. Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences have created a society where traditions, languages, religions and cuisines meet.
As an Indian traveller, that cultural familiarity would perhaps make the journey comfortable, while its differences would keep it exciting.
And then there are places such as Langkawi, with its beaches, islands and natural beauty.
For someone who loves morning walks, photography and nature, that sounds like a wonderful invitation.
“A new landscape does not merely change what we see; it changes the way we see.”

An Unforgettable Adventure in Singapore
❤️ And Then Comes Singapore
I would love to combine Malaysia with Singapore.
Singapore is geographically small, but its personality is enormous.
It represents something I find fascinating: how a modern city can combine technology, cleanliness, architecture, greenery and cultural heritage.
I would love to experience Marina Bay, Gardens by the Bay, Chinatown, Little India and the quiet beauty of its parks.
And Little India would probably feel like meeting an old friend in a foreign land!
Singapore also interests me because it demonstrates how discipline, planning and innovation can transform a small island nation into a globally admired city-state.
Yet I would not want to rush through it.
I would rather walk.
Observe.
Photograph.
Sit somewhere with a cup of tea.
Watch people.
And allow the city to tell me its story.

❤️ Travel After Retirement Has a Different Meaning
Earlier in life, travel can sometimes become a race—how many places can we cover, how many photographs can we take, how many attractions can we visit?
But retirement has taught me another way of travelling.
Slow travel.
There is no need to conquer a destination.
We can simply experience it.
A morning walk beside the sea, a conversation with a local person, an unfamiliar dish, a beautiful sunset, a quiet temple or an unexpected street corner may become more memorable than any famous monument.
“The best souvenirs are not things we bring home, but memories we carry within us.”

❤️ My Bucket List Is Really a List of Experiences
Malaysia and Singapore may be on my travel bucket list, but my real bucket list is much larger.
I want to keep exploring.
I want to walk through unfamiliar streets.
I want to photograph places that make me pause.
I want to taste new flavours, meet different people and understand cultures different from my own.
And most importantly, I want to keep my sense of wonder alive.
Because age may change our knees, our eyesight or our travelling speed—but it should never be allowed to diminish our curiosity.
Perhaps that is the greatest luxury of retirement: having the time to follow your curiosity.

❤️ The Journey Is the Real Destination
So, if someone asks me, “Which country is at the top of your bucket list?” I might answer:
Malaysia—with Singapore added to the journey.
But I know that the deeper answer is this:
I don’t simply want to visit another country.
I want to meet another world.
And perhaps, somewhere between a Malaysian rainforest, a Singaporean street and a quiet cup of tea, I may meet another version of myself too.
“Travel far enough, and you meet yourself along the way.”
So, dear friends, what about you?
Which country is at the top of your bucket list—and what is it that your heart hopes to find there?
