Hello dear friends,
I hope this Blog finds you in a cheerful mood.
Today’s writing prompt question is very interesting as I read: “What’s the best way to explore a new city?”
My answer is simple: Walk through it, observe it, talk to its people, taste its food, and allow yourself to get a little lost.
A new city is not merely a collection of famous monuments, shopping malls, museums, and restaurants. A city has a soul. And to discover that soul, we need to slow down.

❤️ Don’t Just Visit—Experience
When we travel, we often prepare a long checklist: Visit this monument. Take a photograph here. See that museum. Go shopping there.
There is nothing wrong with planning. But sometimes, in our hurry to see everything, we fail to actually see anything.
The real character of a city often lies away from the tourist map—in a small tea stall, a neighbourhood market, an old bookshop, a quiet park, or a conversation with a stranger.
“A city is not a place to visit; it is a story waiting to be lived.”
So, when I enter a new city, I would rather leave some space in my itinerary for the unexpected.

❤️ Walking Is the Best Travel Guide
I believe walking is one of the finest ways to explore a city.
When we walk, we notice things that we would miss from the window of a car or a tourist bus. We see old buildings, colourful doors, street art, roadside vendors, children playing, elderly people sitting together, and ordinary life unfolding around us.
A morning walk can reveal an entirely different city from the one we see at noon.
And perhaps that is why I love combining my morning walks with my camera. A photograph becomes more meaningful when we understand the story behind it.
Sometimes, the best photograph is not of a monument but of a moment.

❤️ Talk to the People
People are the heartbeat of every city.
Ask a shopkeeper where the locals eat. Speak to the taxi driver. Have a cup of tea at a neighbourhood stall. Ask an elderly resident about the history of the street.
These conversations can become memories.
A tourist guide may tell us when a building was constructed. A local person may tell us who lived there, what happened on that street decades ago, and why the neighbourhood still matters.
That human connection can turn a destination into a personal experience.

❤️ Taste the City
Food is another wonderful doorway into a new city.
Every region has its own flavours, ingredients, cooking traditions, and food stories. Instead of always searching for familiar restaurants, try something local.
Eat where the locals eat. Taste the street food. Visit a traditional market.
A city’s cuisine often tells us about its history, geography, culture, and people.
And yes, sometimes the little roadside stall serves a meal we remember longer than an expensive restaurant!

❤️ Leave Room for Getting Lost
One of the greatest pleasures of travel is discovering something we never planned to find.
Of course, safety and common sense should always come first. But within those boundaries, allow yourself to wander.
Take a different road. Sit in a public square. Watch the sunset. Visit a local market. Stop when something catches your attention.
Some of our best travel memories are created when the itinerary ends and curiosity begins.
❤️ Keep a Travel Diary
I also believe in recording impressions.
Write down a few lines each evening. Capture a photograph. Sketch a building. Note an interesting conversation. Record the name of a delicious dish.
Years later, these small details may become more precious than the photographs themselves.
After all, we don’t travel only to collect places. We travel to collect memories.

❤️ The Best Way to Explore
So, what is the best way to explore a new city?
Perhaps there is no single answer.
Use a map, but don’t become its prisoner. Visit the famous landmarks, but also explore the ordinary streets. Take photographs, but sometimes put the camera away. Taste the food, meet the people, listen to their stories, and give yourself permission to slow down.
Because ultimately, the best way to explore a city is to become curious about it.
“Travel is not about how many places you have seen, but how deeply you have felt them.”
A new city is like a new book. We can read its title and summary quickly—or we can turn the pages slowly, allowing its characters, colours, sounds, flavours, and stories to become part of us.
And perhaps that is the real joy of travelling: we leave home to discover a new place, but along the way, we often discover a new part of ourselves.

BE HAPPY… BE ACTIVE… BE FOCUSED… BE ALIVE

Verma ji, what a beautiful and soulful piece! 🙏 You’ve captured the true spirit of travel—not as a checklist of monuments, but as a slow, curious conversation with a city. I especially loved the line, “A city is not a place to visit; it is a story waiting to be lived.” It reminded me to put the map down sometimes, talk to locals, taste street food, and let the city surprise me. Your thoughts on morning walks, small tea stalls, and keeping a travel diary are so true. Thank you for this gentle reminder that the best journeys are measured not by places seen, but by how deeply we feel them. Keep writing and inspiring, Verma ji! ❤️✍️

Thank you so much for your beautiful and thoughtful words! 🙏🌷 I’m delighted that the idea of experiencing a city rather than simply checking places off a list resonated with you.
For me, travel is about slowing down enough to notice the little things—the morning streets, a conversation with a stranger, a cup of tea, a local flavour, or an unexpected moment that becomes a lasting memory.

That’s very kind of you! 😊 I’d be happy to chat about Roblox anytime. And when it comes to type 2 diabetes, I can certainly share reliable information and help you understand what doctors and researchers recommend—but finding a cure is something we should leave to medical science. Wishing you good health, lots of fun, and many happy gaming moments!

We explore a new city, town, or village much the same way as you do, Mr. Verma. I met a lovely deer family on my early morning walk in Glendalough, Ireland when no one wanted to walk with me. I took videos of the deer because it almost felt like they were talking to me! Priceless. What a memory!

What a beautiful and priceless memory! Sometimes, the most magical travel experiences happen when we are walking alone and simply allow nature to surprise us. Meeting a deer family in the quiet morning of Glendalough must have felt like a little conversation with nature itself. Moments like these are far more precious than any planned sightseeing—they stay in the heart long after the journey ends. Thank you for sharing this lovely memory!

A city reveals its soul only to the traveller who slows down enough to listen. Walk with awareness, meet people with openness, and let each unfamiliar street become a mirror because every journey outward can awaken a deeper journey within.

What a beautiful and profound reflection! 🙏✨ I couldn’t agree more. When we slow down, observe with awareness, and connect genuinely with people, a city becomes much more than a destination—it becomes a story waiting to be felt.

Such great advise, Vijay. Getting into the middle of everyday life in a city gives us a more realistic view of how it is to live there.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful words. I completely agree. Experiencing the everyday life of a city, interacting with its people, and observing its culture help us understand its true character beyond the usual tourist attractions. It is these little experiences that make travel more meaningful and memorable. 🙏
