If you could start a new business right now, what would it be?

Hello dear friends,
I hope this Blog finds you in a cheerful mood.
Today’s writing prompt question is very interesting as I read:
“If you could start a new business right now, what would it be?”
At first, this question made me think about shops, offices, investments, employees, profits, and all the usual things associated with business.
But then I smiled..
After spending more than three decades in banking and experiencing the ups and downs of professional life, I have learned that business is not always about selling a product. Sometimes, it is about sharing something valuable that you already possess.
So, if I could start a new business today, I would build something around creativity, experience, learning, and human connection.

❤️A Business of Stories
I would call it something like “The Life & Creativity Studio.”
It would be a small creative space—both online and offline—where senior citizens and young people could come together to write, paint, sketch, read, photograph, and share their life stories.
Why?
Because I strongly believe that every person carries a story worth telling.
A retired teacher has decades of wisdom. A banker has stories of people and changing times. A homemaker has countless untold experiences. A young person has dreams and fresh ideas.
“Every life is a story. The tragedy is not having lived it, but leaving it untold.”
My business would try to give those stories a place.

❤️Turning Hobbies into Possibilities
Over the years, I have discovered that retirement can open doors that employment often keeps closed.
Writing became a regular part of my life. Painting became therapy. Sketching taught me patience. Photography encouraged me to look at ordinary things differently.
So why not help others discover their own creative side?
The studio could offer simple workshops:
- Creative writing for beginners
- Sketching and painting for seniors
- Smartphone photography
- Blogging and storytelling
- Poetry writing
- Journaling and gratitude
- Digital skills for senior citizens
The objective would not be to produce professional artists or bestselling authors.
It would simply be to help people say:
“I can create something too.”

❤️A Business with a Social Purpose
Of course, every business needs financial sustainability. But I would want this one to have a larger purpose.
Perhaps part of the income could support free creative workshops for senior citizens who cannot afford them.
Young volunteers could teach technology to older people, while seniors could share life skills and experiences with the younger generation.
That would create something more valuable than a commercial transaction—a bridge between generations.
“The best businesses do not merely create customers; they create value.”
❤️Could Retirement Become an Advantage?
Interestingly, my biggest asset in such a business would not be money.
It would be experience.
After retirement, we often ask ourselves, “What next?”
But perhaps the better question is:
“What can I now do with everything I have learned?”
Retirement gives us something extremely precious—time.
We can finally explore the interests we postponed during our working years.
I never imagined that walking with a camera, learning sketching, writing poems, painting, blogging, and experimenting with videos would become such an important part of my life.
Perhaps the next chapter could turn those passions into something that helps others.

❤️Profit Beyond Money
Would I want this business to make money?
Certainly.
But I would measure its success differently.
If someone writes their first poem because of my workshop, that would be a success.
If a lonely senior discovers painting and smiles again, that would be a success.
If a young person listens to an elderly person’s life story and understands their parents a little better, that would be a success.
And if someone says, “I thought I was too old to start something new, but you inspired me to try,” that would probably be the greatest profit of all.
“Success is not only about what you earn; it is also about what you give.”

❤️My Business Plan? Keep Learning, Keep Creating
So, if I could start a new business today, I would not open another bank.
I would open a space for ideas, stories, creativity, and connection.
Perhaps that is what growing older has taught me.
We don’t necessarily need a completely new life.
Sometimes, we simply need to look at our existing life with new eyes.
The best time to start something meaningful may not have been yesterday.
It may be today.
And perhaps the most important business we can build is the business of building a better version of ourselves—one day, one idea, and one creative step at a time.
Because life after retirement is not the end of the journey.
It can be the beginning of our most interesting venture yet.

BE HAPPY… BE ACTIVE… BE FOCUSED… BE ALIVE

Absolutely! These are three beautiful reminders for living a calmer and more meaningful life. Challenges build character, our responses reveal it, and knowing what to ignore protects our peace.
A simple formula worth remembering: Learn from the past, respond wisely in the present, and focus on what truly matters. 🌿

I would love to go to an art hub like this so I can connect with other artists and writers! This is a fantastic idea, friend. It helps to talk about our passions with other creatives.

Thank you so much, dear friend! 🙏 That is exactly the dream behind the idea—a place where artists, writers, and creative souls can meet, share their passions, inspire one another, and simply enjoy the joy of creating together.
I believe creativity grows when it is shared. Sometimes, one conversation with another creative person can spark an idea that stays with us for years.

A beautiful vision of entrepreneurship where experience becomes wisdom, creativity becomes purpose, and human connection becomes the real wealth. The most meaningful business is one that enriches lives while keeping the spirit of learning and creation alive. Retirement is not an ending; it is an opportunity to begin something extraordinary. 🙏

Thank you so much for your beautiful words. 🙏 I completely agree—perhaps the greatest entrepreneurship begins when we stop measuring success only in money and start measuring it in lives touched, smiles created, and wisdom shared.
Retirement has taught me that experience does not have to become a memory; it can become a new beginning. When creativity finds purpose and people come together, something truly meaningful can emerge.

Verma ji, this is truly beautiful. 🙏
You’ve redefined what “business” means — not as a transaction, but as a bridge between generations, between stories, between hearts. “The Life & Creativity Studio” isn’t just a business idea; it’s a philosophy of living.
The line that stayed with me: “The tragedy is not having lived it, but leaving it untold.” So true. Every senior carries a library within them, and every young person carries the curiosity to read it — you’ve found a way to bring both together.
And your definition of profit? A first poem, a smile rediscovered, a story shared — that’s wealth no balance sheet can measure.
You’ve proven that retirement isn’t an ending — it’s a rewriting. Wishing you and your studio every success, however you choose to measure it.
“We don’t necessarily need a completely new life. Sometimes, we simply need to look at our existing life with new eyes.” — Verma ji, you’ve already opened that studio. It’s called your mind. 🌸

What a beautiful and thoughtful reflection. 🙏
Your words have added another dimension to the idea of the Life & Creativity Studio—perhaps the most important one.
I truly believe that every person carries untold stories, forgotten dreams, and creativity waiting to breathe again.
If we can create a little space where generations meet, share, create, and rediscover themselves, that itself is a meaningful kind of wealth.

That is a business I would certainly support wholeheartedly. You are on the right track SIr, for what we need in this world today, a world of digitalised experiences, is a world of truly human experiences. And what could be more human than creative activity? I happily applaud your initiative.

Thank you, Sir.
Your words beautifully capture the spirit behind the idea.
In an increasingly digital world, I believe we need spaces where people can put the screens aside, meet face to face, create with their hands, share stories, and simply enjoy being human. Art and creativity can become wonderful bridges between generations and between hearts.

Without a doubt, we need less screen time, less scrolling time and more real time being creative and not letting a machine do it for us. I think we all need to work, as hard as possible, to guide the people back to a reality controlled by humans. Thank you Sir for such a powerful message.

Thank you, Sir.
I completely agree that technology should remain a tool, not become a substitute for our own imagination, creativity and human connection.
Screens can give us information, but creating something with our own hands, sharing a real conversation, taking a walk, painting, writing or simply sitting quietly gives us something technology cannot truly replace.

But we must be always mindful that what is on the screen is the opinion of the one who put it there. It is not, necessarily the truth or absolute truth. We must not lose the ability and the training we had to research beyond just one source. People nowadays think that Google, or Wikipedia or AI have all the answers. I do not disagree that they do have answers, but are they true?

Thank you, Sir.
I completely agree that having instant access to information does not automatically make that information true.
Google, Wikipedia, AI and other digital tools can help us find answers, but they should not replace our own judgment and curiosity.

Sometimes I think a long working career in one field makes us believe we could never do anything else, so we do not try. Once we get away from the job and give things a try we are often surprised at how much easier it is than we thought it would be. The key is to take the first step. You might surprise yourself at what you can accomplish. Have a great day. Allan

Absolutely, Allan! I couldn’t agree more. 🙏 A long career can sometimes put us inside a comfortable box and make us forget that we have many other abilities waiting to be explored.
Retirement gave me the opportunity to discover writing, painting, sketching, photography, and several other creative pursuits that I had never seriously considered before. The first step may feel uncertain, but once we take it, the journey often becomes surprisingly enjoyable.

The Life & Creativity Studio is a lovely idea, and the two-way part is what makes it work — young volunteers teaching technology while seniors pass on life skills. My own kids have learned more from their grandparents’ stories than from anything we’ve planned for them. Thirty years in banking is a lot of human stories to draw on.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful words. I completely agree—the real beauty of the Life & Creativity Studio lies in this two-way exchange.
Young people may bring technology and fresh ideas, while seniors bring experiences, stories, patience, and lessons gathered over a lifetime.
