# But I Am Still Here #

This is a poem about reclaiming self-worth after the passage of time. It reminds us that wrinkles, changed dreams, and life’s disappointments are not signs of defeat. We may grow older and change along the way, but as long as we are still here, there is still time to love, create, dream, and live.

# But I Am Still Here #

You may insult me,
but you cannot define me.

You may try to humiliate me,
but I will not hand you
the power to decide my worth.

No one can make me feel humiliated
without my permission.

Look at my wrinkles—
they are not signs of defeat.

They are the footprints
of years I have survived.

The doctor I never became
still lives in the part of me
that wants to heal.

The youth I lost
still dances inside my memories.

The dreams that changed
taught me to discover
new dreams.

I may have lost
some battles with time,

but I have not forgotten
to love myself.

So let life take
whatever years remain.

I will fill them
with laughter,
with writing,
with art,
with love,
with passion.

Now, I am older.

Yes, I have changed.

But I am still here—

and I am not finished yet.

  2. Verma ji, what a profoundly moving and empowering piece of writing. The line “Wrinkles are not signs of defeat—they are the footprints of years I have survived” is absolutely breathtaking and reframes an entire lifetime with such grace.

I love how you acknowledge the lost battles and changed dreams without surrendering the war—showing that the “doctor you never became” still heals, and that lost youth still dances. The quiet, unshakable confidence in “I am not finished yet” is a masterclass in resilience and a beautiful lesson for all of us.

Thank you for sharing your wisdom, your soul, and this gentle yet fierce rebellion against time. Truly inspiring, Verma ji! 🙏✨

    • Thank you so much for these deeply thoughtful and generous words. ❤️ I’m truly touched that the poem resonated with you so strongly.

I especially appreciate your interpretation of the “doctor I never became” and the “lost youth that still dances.” Sometimes the dreams we couldn’t fulfill do not disappear; they quietly transform into new ways of living, creating, caring, and contributing.

  4. Such a beautiful and empowering poem! The line “I am not finished yet” really hit home. It was the perfect reflective read while sitting here waiting for my carpet cleaners to finally finish up today. Thanks for sharing!

    • Thank you so much for your lovely words! ❤️ I’m delighted that “I am not finished yet” resonated with you. Sometimes, that simple reminder is exactly what we need—to remember that our story is still unfolding, regardless of our age or circumstances.

And I’m glad the poem kept you company while you waited for the carpet cleaners! 😊 I hope the freshly cleaned carpets and the poem both left you with a renewed sense of freshness and optimism.

  5. What a great primer on self worth. It is true, you can only be humiliated or demeaned if you hand someone else the power. Not everyone can be perfect at every task, but that is OK. As long as we learn, live, love, laugh we add value to our own life and that of others. Being a good parent, being a good grandparent, being a good partner, is much better than being the best sports figure or celebrity. Have a great day. Allan

    • Thank you, Allan, for such a thoughtful and meaningful reflection. I completely agree—our true worth is not measured by perfection, fame, or achievements, but by the love we give, the lessons we learn, and the lives we touch. Being a good parent, grandparent, or partner is indeed one of life’s greatest accomplishments.

As you beautifully put it, learn, live, love, and laugh—that is a wonderful way to live. Wishing you a beautiful day too! 🌷
