# When Memories Clock In Again #

Some memories never retire. They quietly revisit us through old photographs, familiar names, and cherished moments, reminding us that while careers may end, the bonds we build and the memories we create continue to live in our hearts forever.

When Memories Clock In Again

Some memories
never grow old.

They do not fade with time,
nor surrender
to passing years.

They simply wait—

for a quiet evening,
an old photograph,
or a familiar name…

and suddenly,
the heart is back
where it once belonged.

There was a time
when every morning
had a purpose.

The bank,
the desk,
the endless work,
the laughter of colleagues—

all seemed
like an ordinary part of life.

Only after it was gone
did I realise
it had been
the golden chapter
of my life.

The enthusiasm has mellowed.
The job has ended.
The office is no longer mine.

But the memories…

they still clock in
every single day.

And whenever they arrive,
my eyes grow moist,
my lips wear a gentle smile,

and for a few precious moments,

I no longer feel retired—

I am back at my office,
living those beautiful days
all over again.

You are absolutely right—our memories become the chapters of our life story. They remind us where we have been, what we have learned, and the wonderful people who have walked beside us. I truly believe that as long as we cherish them, those beautiful moments never grow old.

    • Thank you so much for your thoughtful and encouraging words. 🙏😊

I completely agree with you. Every memory—whether joyful or painful—becomes a part of who we are. The happy ones warm our hearts, while the difficult ones teach us resilience, wisdom, and compassion. Together, they shape the path we walk and the person we become.

  6. Beautifully expressed. Your words remind us that retirement marks the end of a profession, not the end of purpose or belonging. The memories of shared work, friendships, and quiet everyday moments become a timeless inheritance, returning not to make us mourn the past, but to remind us how richly we have lived. Some chapters close, yet they continue to illuminate the heart for a lifetime. A deeply moving reflection.

    • Thank you from the bottom of my heart for such a beautiful and thoughtful reflection. 🙏💙

Your words capture exactly what I hoped to convey—that while a career may come to an end, our purpose, relationships, and the memories we’ve gathered continue to enrich our lives. I especially loved your thought that memories are a “timeless inheritance.” What a wonderful way to describe them. They don’t keep us trapped in the past; they remind us how deeply we have lived, loved, and grown.

  7. I am intrigued how memories come and go and come back again.

It could be something that subtle as the way, the light bends in the evening.

The smell of the spice cooking.

    At church bell.

    • Thank you for such a beautiful reflection. I couldn’t agree more. Memories have a quiet way of returning when we least expect them—carried by the evening light, the aroma of familiar spices, or the gentle ringing of a church bell.

These simple moments become invisible bridges to our past, reminding us that the most meaningful memories never truly leave us; they simply wait for the right moment to visit again. Thank you for sharing such a lovely thought. 🙏

    • Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful words. I’m truly delighted that the poem resonated with you.

I’m especially touched that the line, “But the memories, they still clock in every single day,” became your favourite. It came straight from the heart, reflecting how, although I retired from the bank years ago, the friendships, experiences, and cherished moments continue to report for duty in my heart every day.

Your encouragement means a great deal to me. Thank you for reading so deeply and sharing your appreciation. 🙏

  9. A good summation of how human memory is selective and can be retriggered by sounds, sights and smells.

Ahhhh, work memories. Not always good memories. I often have stress dreams in which I am back working again. Work was quite stressful at times and sadly, it is often those memories that come bubbling up. That being said, I often recall the good times when I am awake…the road trips…the comradery…the successes. As to those days being my best, I think my retirement days are better. Have a wonderful day. • Thank you, Allan, for sharing such a thoughtful reflection. I can certainly understand how stressful work memories can resurface in dreams, even years after retirement. It’s remarkable how our minds hold on to those intense moments.

I’m glad, though, that when you’re awake, the happier memories take center stage—the road trips, the camaraderie, and the shared successes. Those are the moments that truly define a career and remind us of the friendships and experiences gained along the way.
