Today’s writing prompt made me pause and smile: “Who is the fictional character you relate to the most?”
It is one of those questions that quietly reveals something about who we are. Our favorite fictional character often reflects our values, our dreams, and the way we see the world.
Fictional characters may live in imaginary worlds, but the lessons they teach are often wonderfully real.
After thinking about many unforgettable characters—Atticus Finch with his unwavering integrity, Sherlock Holmes with his brilliant intellect, and Phileas Fogg with his adventurous spirit—I found myself returning to an unexpected companion: Alice from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
Not because she is the strongest or the smartest, but because she never stops wondering.
Life Is a Wonderland
At first glance, Alice appears to be an ordinary young girl. But when she follows the White Rabbit, she enters a world where nothing is predictable.
Animals talk, logic turns upside down, and every turn presents a new surprise.
Isn’t life much the same?
Each stage of life introduces us to unfamiliar experiences. Childhood, adulthood, retirement, and aging all bring unexpected twists.
Just when we think we have figured everything out, life presents another puzzle.
Like Alice, we must learn to navigate the unknown with curiosity instead of fear.
The Power of Curiosity
What I admire most about Alice is her endless curiosity.
She does not panic when faced with strange situations. Instead, she asks questions, observes carefully, and keeps exploring.
That quality has inspired my own journey.
Retirement, for many, signals the end of one chapter. For me, it opened the door to an entirely new adventure.
Blogging, writing poetry, sketching, painting, reading, learning, and connecting with people across the globe have become exciting paths of discovery.
Every new skill feels like opening another mysterious door in Wonderland.
I have come to believe that curiosity keeps the mind young long after the body begins to age.
Never Lose Your Sense of Wonder
Children naturally ask, “Why?”
Adults often stop asking because they assume they already know enough.
Alice reminds us that learning never ends.
Every book we read, every conversation we have, every journey we undertake teaches us something new. Even a quiet morning walk or a simple cup of tea can become a lesson if we remain attentive.
Wonder is not reserved for children.
It belongs to anyone who chooses to look at life with fresh eyes.
Finding Creativity in the Unexpected
One reason I relate to Alice is that she embraces imagination.
Wonderland encourages her to think differently, and creativity flourishes where certainty ends.
The same is true in my own life.
- Every blog begins with a question.
- Every painting begins with a blank canvas.
- Every poem begins with a single feeling.
I have discovered that creativity isn’t about having all the answers. It is about being willing to explore possibilities.
Sometimes the most beautiful ideas appear when we least expect them.
Learning to Adapt
Wonderland is confusing.
The rules change without warning.
People speak in riddles.
Nothing remains predictable.
Yet Alice keeps moving forward.
Life asks the same of us.
Technology changes rapidly. Relationships evolve. Health presents unexpected challenges. Plans don’t always unfold as we imagine.
Instead of resisting change, Alice teaches us to adapt with courage and grace.
That may be one of the greatest life skills of all.
Kindness Never Goes Out of Style
Despite meeting many eccentric and sometimes difficult characters, Alice remains polite and compassionate.
In today’s fast-moving world, kindness often feels like an underrated virtue.
Whether I am writing a blog, replying to a reader’s comment, or encouraging a fellow writer, I remind myself that every person carries unseen struggles.
A kind word may not solve every problem, but it can brighten someone’s day.
And sometimes, that is enough.
Growing Older Without Growing Dull
Perhaps the greatest lesson Alice teaches is that growing older should never mean losing our imagination.
- Responsibilities increase.
- Experience teaches caution.
- But wisdom should never replace curiosity.
I still enjoy discovering new books, experimenting with art, travelling whenever possible, and finding joy in life’s simple pleasures—a sunrise, a meaningful conversation, a painting, or a warm cup of tea.
These are my own little Wonderland moments.
A Journey Worth Taking
If someone asked me which fictional character reflects my journey, my answer would be Alice.
Not because my life resembles hers, but because I hope never to lose the qualities that make her unforgettable—curiosity, resilience, kindness, imagination, and an open heart.
As Lewis Carroll beautifully wrote:
“Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”
What a delightful reminder to keep dreaming, regardless of our age.
Life becomes extraordinary not because the world changes, but because we continue to see it with wonder.

Perhaps every one of us carries a little Alice within.
