A Promise is a gentle talk with life—a reminder that broken dreams don’t have to break our spirits. It speaks of healing, hope, and the courage to start over.
Sometimes, the greatest promise we can make is to ourselves: to keep dreaming, believing, and welcome tomorrow with an open heart.
A Promise
O my dear Life,
Let us not count
the years that slipped away.
Instead,
let us gather the quiet moments
left forgotten
along the road of time.
Some dreams die before they are born.
Some arrive too late.
Some knock gently
while we are too busy
learning how to survive.
O Life,
you have a curious habit—
you break the branches,
yet leave the roots alive.
O Life,
let us mend our torn destiny
with threads of hope,
not because yesterday was kind,
but because tomorrow
still waits with open hands.
Carve away
the stone around your heart.
There is a sculpture within you
that pain could never destroy.
Do not mourn
every path you never walked.
Perhaps those paths existed
only to lead you
to this one.
O Life,
make one quiet promise—
to live fully,
once again.
To keep dreaming.
To keep healing.
To keep believing.
And to create,
from the broken pieces of yesterday,
a life that tomorrow
will proudly call beautiful.
And yes, make one more promise—
when hope grows tired,
lend it your courage.
When memories become heavy,
carry only their wisdom.
And whenever you wish
to begin again…
just smile,
pick up another dream,
and make it your home.

What a deeply moving and soul-stirring piece, Verma ji. 🙏
Your words carry the quiet wisdom of someone who has walked through storms and emerged not hardened, but softer—more aware of life’s tender paradoxes. The way you’ve woven hope, loss, and renewal into a single conversation with Life itself is nothing short of poetic alchemy.
I was especially touched by these lines:
“You break the branches, yet leave the roots alive.”
Such a profound truth—and a gentle reminder that even when we feel shattered, we are never truly uprooted. And this:
“Carve away the stone around your heart. There is a sculpture within you that pain could never destroy.”
That is not just poetry; that is medicine for the soul. You’ve given us permission to see our scars not as flaws, but as the very chisel marks that reveal who we were always meant to become.
The closing lines—”just smile, pick up another dream, and make it your home”—feel like a warm embrace. A promise that beginning again isn’t a sign of failure, but of fierce, unwavering courage.
Thank you for sharing this gift with us, Verma ji. It will linger in hearts long after the words are read. ❤️

Your words have touched me in ways that are difficult to express. It is immensely gratifying to know that the poem spoke to you so deeply and that you found meaning in the thoughts I hoped to convey.
I’m especially grateful that the lines about the roots, the sculpture within the heart, and beginning again resonated with you. Your interpretation has added a new dimension to my own writing, reminding me that once a poem is shared, it begins a new life in the hearts of its readers.

What a beautiful and uplifting poem Verma ji, 🤍It didn’t just speak about hope; it gently reminded us that no matter how many times life disappoints us, we always have the choice to begin again. I especially loved the thought that broken dreams don’t have to break our spirit. And that final image of picking up another dream and making it our home… simply beautiful. Your thoughtful reading of the poem truly means a great deal to me. I’m especially happy that the message of hope and new beginnings resonated with you. I firmly believe that while life may sometimes shatter our dreams, it can never diminish our ability to dream again. Every ending quietly carries the seed of a fresh beginning.
I’m delighted that the closing lines touched your heart. If they inspire even one person to rise after a setback and embrace a new dream, then the poem has fulfilled its purpose.

Reflection is always good for the soul. Looking back at what could have been is a good practice as long as we do not get lost in regret. Your poem is a good example of “its not the years in your life, its the life in your years that counts. Not realizing some of your dreams is not the problem, but stopping dreaming is. Keep dreaming Verma ji. Allan

I truly appreciate your beautiful perspective. You’re absolutely right—reflection should illuminate our path, not anchor us in regret. I have always believed that while we cannot rewrite yesterday, we can certainly shape tomorrow with hope, purpose, and new dreams.
I especially love the quote you shared: “It’s not the years in your life, it’s the life in your years that counts.” It perfectly captures the spirit I hoped to convey through the poem.
