# Reflections on Life #

A heartfelt reflection from an older self to his younger years, this poem gently explores life’s journey through wisdom, loss, love, and growth.

It reminds us that life is not meant to be controlled or rushed, but lived deeply—accepting storms, cherishing simple joys, and finding meaning in every rise and fall along the way.

# Reflections on Life #

If I could walk the road backward,
Through the footprints time has worn,
I would find the young dreamer I once was,
Standing hopeful in the dawn.

I would not come carrying answers,
Nor a map of where to go,
For life is not a puzzle to be solved,
But a river we learn to flow.

I would tell him,
“Do not fear the storms ahead.
Some winds will bend your branches,
But none will break your roots.”

The tears you hide in silence
Will water unseen seeds,
And from your broken places
Will bloom your deepest strengths.

Do not chase every horizon.
Some dreams are meant to change.
Some doors must gently close
To open wider ranges.

The friends who walk beside you now
May not remain till the end,
Yet every soul that shares your path
Leaves a lesson, leaves a friend.

One day the mirror will reveal
Silver threads among your hair,
And you will smile at worries
That once felt hard to bear.

You will find that happiness
Lives in moments small and true—
A child’s laughter,
A shared meal,
A sky of evening blue.

And when life’s evening softly comes,
As it surely does for all,
You will not count what you owned,
But the hearts that heard your call.

So walk on, young traveler,
With courage in your chest.
You need not know the whole journey—
Each season reveals the rest.

And when you reach my age someday,
And look back through years gone by,
You will whisper with gratitude—

“What a beautiful journey it was—
To stumble,
To rise,
To love,
To lose,
To learn,
And still keep reaching for the sky.”

  2. Verma ji,

What a soul-stirring piece of writing this is. You’ve captured the essence of a life fully lived—not in grand achievements, but in the quiet, tender moments that truly shape us. The way you’ve woven together loss and love, storms and stillness, is nothing short of beautiful.

The line “Some winds will bend your branches, but none will break your roots” moved me deeply. It’s a reminder that no matter how life tests us, our core remains unshaken. And the closing verse—”To stumble, To rise, To love, To lose, To learn, And still keep reaching for the sky”—feels like both a comfort and a call to keep going.

Thank you for reminding us that life isn’t about having all the answers, but about having the courage to live the questions. This poem is a gift. 🙏

    With warm regards.

    • Thank you so much for your heartfelt and generous words. Reading your reflection was a gift in itself.

I am deeply touched that those particular lines resonated with you. Life has a way of testing our strength, yet as you so beautifully observed, it is often our roots—our values, memories, and capacity to hope—that keep us grounded through every storm.

Your insight that a life is measured not by grand achievements but by the quiet moments that shape us reflects the very spirit in which the poem was written. We all stumble, rise, love, lose, and learn, and perhaps the true beauty of the journey lies in continuing to reach for the sky despite the uncertainties.

  3. Verma ji, 🙏

This is not merely a poem; it is a conversation between Time and the Soul.
The young dreamer and the elder traveler stand upon the same path, separated only by years, yet united by wisdom.
Every stanza carries the quiet truth that life is not measured by achievements, but by the depth with which it is lived.
The closing lines are especially beautiful, for they transform life’s wounds into lessons and its uncertainties into gratitude.
Reading this feels like sitting beneath an old tree, listening to the gentle voice of experience whispering eternal truths.
A deeply moving and timeless reflection,
    Vijay.

    • Thank you so much for your beautiful and thoughtful reflection. I am deeply touched by your interpretation of the poem.

Your description of it as a conversation between Time and the Soul captures its essence far more eloquently than I could have expressed myself. I especially love your image of the young dreamer and the elder traveler walking the same path, connected by the wisdom gathered along the journey
