What Is One Way You Have Grown This Year?
Hello dear friends,
I hope this blog finds you in a cheerful mood and enjoying the beautiful journey of life, one day at a time.
Today’s writing prompt asks a simple yet profound question: “What is one way you have grown this year?”
At first glance, it seems easy to answer. We often think of growth in terms of achievements—earning a promotion, learning a new skill, improving our health, or reaching a personal milestone.
While those accomplishments certainly matter, some of the most meaningful growth happens quietly within us. It takes place in our thoughts, attitudes, and understanding of ourselves and others.
If I were to choose one way I have grown this year, it would be this:

❤️Learning to Embrace Change Instead of Resisting It
Human beings naturally seek comfort and familiarity. We enjoy routines, predictable outcomes, and the feeling of control.
Yet life has a way of reminding us that change is inevitable. Relationships evolve, careers shift, circumstances transform, and sometimes the plans we carefully create take unexpected turns.
For many years, I viewed change with caution. Like many people, I preferred certainty over uncertainty.
However, this year has taught me that resisting change often creates more stress than the change itself.
Growth began when I stopped asking, “Why is this happening?” and started asking, “What can this teach me?”
That small shift in perspective made a remarkable difference.
The Greatest Lessons Often Arrive Uninvited
Some of life’s most valuable lessons do not come wrapped in comfort. They arrive through challenges, disappointments, and unexpected detours.
Perhaps a goal didn’t work out as planned. Maybe a relationship changed. Maybe circumstances forced you to adapt in ways you never imagined.
Initially, these experiences can feel frustrating. Yet when we look back, we often discover they guided us toward greater wisdom, resilience, and self-awareness.
Growth is rarely about avoiding difficulties. More often, it is about becoming stronger because of them.
The oak tree does not become mighty without enduring storms. Likewise, our character is shaped through the challenges we face and overcome.

Becoming More Patient with Myself
Another important aspect of growth this year has been learning patience.
Modern society celebrates speed. We are encouraged to achieve more, move faster, and constantly compare our progress to others. Social media often magnifies this pressure by showcasing highlight reels rather than real life.
But growth is not a race.
Every person follows a unique path with its own timing and lessons. Some goals take months. Others take years. Some dreams require preparation before they can become reality.
This year, I have learned that meaningful progress often happens slowly and quietly. Like a seed growing beneath the soil, much of the transformation occurs before anyone can see the results.
Patience has allowed me to appreciate the journey rather than obsess over the destination.

The Power of Listening
One of the most overlooked forms of personal growth is becoming a better listener.
Listening is more than waiting for our turn to speak. It involves understanding another person’s experiences, emotions, and perspectives.
This year, I have made a conscious effort to listen more carefully—to friends, family members, colleagues, and even people whose views differ from my own.
The result has been eye-opening.
Every person carries a story. Every individual is fighting battles we may know nothing about.
When we truly listen, we develop empathy, compassion, and a deeper appreciation for the complexity of human experience.
In many ways, listening has taught me more than speaking ever could.

Growth Is Not Always Visible
One reason this prompt is so meaningful is that it encourages reflection.
Often, we underestimate our own growth because we focus on what still needs improvement. We forget to acknowledge how far we have already come.
Perhaps this year you became more confident.
Perhaps you learned to set healthier boundaries.
Perhaps you forgave someone.
Perhaps you overcame a fear.
Perhaps you simply survived a difficult season with grace and determination.
These forms of growth may not earn awards or public recognition, but they are significant nonetheless.
Personal growth is not measured solely by what we achieve. It is also measured by who we become.

My Final Submission
As we reflect on the question, “What is one way you have grown this year?”, I encourage you to look beyond external accomplishments.
Consider the lessons you’ve learned, the habits you’ve improved, the perspectives you’ve gained, and the challenges you’ve overcome.
Growth is not always loud. Sometimes it appears as greater patience, deeper understanding, stronger resilience, or a kinder heart.
When we take time to recognize our progress, we gain confidence to continue moving forward.
After all, life is not about becoming perfect. It is about becoming a little wiser, a little stronger, and a little more authentic with each passing year.
What is one way you have grown this year?
The answer may reveal just how remarkable your journey has already been.
Thank you for reading, dear friends. Until next time, stay curious, stay hopeful, and keep growing.

Beautifully said, Verma ji! 🙏 This reflection on growth—especially the quiet, internal kind—really hits home. Your point about listening more deeply and embracing change rather than resisting it is something so many of us need to hear. Thank you for sharing your journey with such honesty and grace. It’s a reminder that we’re all growing in ways that may not be visible, but are deeply meaningful. Keep writing, keep inspiring!🌱✨

I’m deeply touched that this reflection resonated with you. I truly believe that some of the most profound growth happens quietly, beneath the surface, where no applause is heard and no milestones are visible. It is found in the way we become a little more patient, a little more understanding, and a little more willing to embrace life’s changes instead of fearing them.

What a beautifully written reflection Verma ji, I especially loved the idea that growth often happens quietly and isn’t always visible to others. In a world that celebrates constant achievements and quick results, your reminder that patience, resilience, empathy, and self-awareness are also signs of growth is both refreshing and inspiring. The shift from asking ‘Why is this happening?’ to ‘What can this teach me?’ is such a powerful mindset. Thank you for sharing these thoughtful insights and encouraging us to pause, reflect, and appreciate how far we’ve come on our own journeys. 🤍✨

Ah, painting in the afternoon, as I do as well. Clear your mind and let the painting talk to you. You will feel the freshness of the creative energy and as well a meditative experience which is phenomenal!

Thank you so much, Sir.
I completely agree—there is something wonderfully meditative about painting in the afternoon.
As the mind quiets and expectations fade away, it feels as though the painting begins to guide the hands rather than the other way around.
The creative energy that emerges in those moments is both refreshing and healing. It’s a rare gift to lose track of time and simply be present with the colors, the brushstrokes, and the silence.
Wishing you many more inspiring and peaceful afternoons at the easel. 🎨✨🌿

It is always good to give yourself an honest performance review. To think we are perfect is often in error and gives us excuses not to change. I do like your thoughts about assessing failures along with successes, being more patient and a better listener. I have to work on those last two myself. We should al strive to be the best version of ourselves. Have a great weekend. Allan

Thank you, Allan, for your thoughtful reflection. I completely agree that giving ourselves an honest performance review requires both humility and courage. It’s easy to celebrate our strengths, but acknowledging our shortcomings without self-condemnation is often where real growth begins.
Like you, I find that patience and truly listening are lifelong lessons rather than destinations we finally arrive at. Perhaps the goal isn’t perfection, but a sincere willingness to keep learning, adjusting, and becoming a little wiser and kinder with each passing year.

So true – “change the things we can and accept the things we can’t.”

Thank you so much. 🙏
I believe much of life’s peace lies in understanding that simple truth: to change what is within our power and gracefully accept what is not. So much of our suffering comes from trying to control the uncontrollable, while our growth begins when we focus our energy on our responses, choices, and attitude.

Wise words! 🙏🏽 I am happy that you have learned to embrace change and not find anxiety or fear in the unexpected or life shifts. This is something I need to work on for myself! 💜

Thank you for your kind reflection 😊🙏🏽
I wouldn’t say I’ve “mastered” anything—life still feels full of unknowns—but I’ve learned that change often becomes gentler when we stop resisting it so tightly. Most of the anxiety comes from trying to hold everything still in a world that’s always moving.

And congratulations on your own intention to return to daily writing—that itself is a strong step. The truth is, consistency isn’t about having perfect words or endless time; it’s about showing up in whatever way we can, even if it’s small or imperfect.
