A soulful reflection on life’s journey through time, exploring how our thoughts, emotions, and focus quietly shape the world within us. The poem reminds us that life eventually becomes whatever the heart chooses to hold closest.
The Horse of Time
Life runs fast
on the tired horse of time,
carrying laughter in one hand
and wounds in the other.
What you hold close
slowly becomes your world.
If you sit beside pain,
even sunlight feels cold.
If you walk with hope,
broken roads begin to bloom.
This life has countless flavours—
love, loss, silence, longing.
But the deepest truth is this:
the heart becomes
what it touches the most.
So be careful
where your soul keeps wandering.
Because life quietly turns into
the very thing
you cannot stop thinking about.

Verma ji, this is a quietly powerful piece—each line carries the weight of lived wisdom. The way you’ve woven time, choice, and inner transformation into the simple metaphor of a tired horse is nothing short of beautiful. “The heart becomes what it touches the most” will linger with me for a long time. Thank you for this gentle, soulful reminder to guard our thoughts and hold hope closer than hurt. 🙏

Thank you so much.
It is deeply humbling to know that the poem resonated with you in such a meaningful way. As writers, we often send our words into the world without knowing where they will land, and it is comments like yours that remind us that a shared thought can quietly find a home in another heart.

Thank you so much for your kind and encouraging words. 🌸
I am truly glad that the poem resonated with you. Sometimes poetry becomes a quiet mirror, reflecting thoughts and truths that many of us carry within our hearts but rarely express aloud. The poem was born from reflecting on how easily we become occupied with chasing tomorrow while forgetting to fully live today.

Thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement. 😊🙏
I’m especially pleased that the comparison of time to a horse resonated with you. The image came to me because time often feels like a powerful horse—always moving forward, never standing still, and impossible to hold back no matter how much we wish to slow it down. We can ride alongside it for a while, but we can never truly stop its gallop.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful words. 🌿
I’m truly glad the poem’s quieter layers came through for you. Sometimes the most meaningful journeys are the ones that happen inwardly—where thoughts, emotions, and awareness gently reshape how we see ourselves and the world around us.

This life has countless flavours—
First, I love the British spelling of words.
I guess that’s where the term variety is the spice of life comes from.

Absolutely! Life would be rather dull if everything looked, sounded, and tasted the same. 😄
And I must admit, British spelling does have a certain charm—”flavour,” “colour,” and “favourite” seem to carry a little extra elegance.
As for “variety is the spice of life,” I think you’re right. Different cultures, languages, spellings, perspectives, and experiences are what make life so rich and interesting. If everything were identical, there would be very little left to discover.
After all, life’s countless flavours are what keep the journey fascinating.
