Daily writing prompt
What is your favorite restaurant?

Hello dear friends,
I hope this blog finds you in a cheerful mood.

Today’s writing prompt stirred up a delightful wave of nostalgia—

“What is your favorite restaurant?”
And just like that, I was transported back in time… to laughter, lively music, and the sweet-tangy allure of a drink that still dances on my tongue.

Let me take you there.

It was 15 years ago, in the vibrant city of Kolkata. I was posted at the Main Branch, a place buzzing with activity and ambition. But what made that chapter memorable wasn’t just the work—it was what happened outside office hours.

Our Branch Manager, fondly called Saheb, was more than a boss. He was a catalyst of camaraderie, a man who believed in blending work with warmth.

He initiated a brilliant tradition—every fourth Saturday, all ten officers would meet for a cocktail party. And not just anywhere… we had a fixed destination: the iconic Bluefox Hotel.

“Some places remain in our memories not for what we ate, but for what we felt.”

These evenings were magical. Everyone had their favorite drink—beer for some, whiskey for others, a glass of fine wine for the more elegant souls. But me? I had eyes only for the vibrant, exotic Blue Lagoon cocktail.

A mesmerizing azure drink, both sweet and citrusy, the Blue Lagoon wasn’t just a drink—it was a mood.

Its electric hue captured the imagination, and its refreshing blend of lemon and vodka was the perfect way to unwind after a long week. “A good drink shared with good friends is a recipe for unforgettable nights.”

As the evening progressed, formalities faded. The clinking of glasses slowly gave way to candid confessions, shared jokes, and heartfelt conversations.

Those gatherings helped us see each other not just as colleagues, but as people with stories, dreams, and struggles.

Somewhere between the second round and the starters, barriers melted. Laughter filled the air, as did the subtle notes of trust and understanding.

We solved personal dilemmas over paneer tikka and poured encouragement as easily as the bartender poured our drinks.

“The best table in the world is the one surrounded by laughter and friends.”

Every party must come to an end. The music dimmed, the plates were cleared, and the bill arrived—often hefty, but never a burden.

I, perhaps high on the spirit (and the spirits!), was often the first to offer to pay.
But our Saheb had his own silent rule: the next morning, the bill was split equally among all.

That gesture—simple yet profound—taught us about shared responsibility. It wasn’t just about money. It was about fairness, unity, and a quiet affirmation that we were all in it together.

“True friendship isn’t about who pays the bill, but about standing together when it’s due.”

Bluefox may have shut its doors, but in our memories, it lives on. And the Blue Lagoon? It became more than a cocktail—it became a symbol of joy, togetherness, and cherished bonds.

When someone asks me today, “What’s your favorite restaurant?”, I smile.
Because it’s not about the food or the place anymore—
It’s about those Saturday nights.
It’s about the shared stories, the laughter, the clinking glasses, and the warmth of knowing you belong.

“Some flavors never fade—they linger in the heart long after the last sip.”

So, dear friends, as you sip your coffee or your favorite drink today, take a moment to remember your own Bluefox—that place where you felt most alive, most connected.

And if you haven’t found it yet, go out there and create it.
Cheers to memories, friendships, and finding your own favorite restaurant that becomes so much more than a place to eat.

BE HAPPY… BE ACTIVE… BE FOCUSED… BE ALIVE

  2. What a beautiful trip down memory lane, Verma ji! Your words painted the Bluefox evenings so vividly—I could almost taste the tangy-sweet Blue Lagoon and hear the clinking glasses. What struck me most was how you turned a simple question about a restaurant into a tribute to friendship, shared laughter, and those quiet lessons in unity. That equal-split bill rule by Saheb? Pure gold. Thank you for reminding us that the best restaurants aren’t just about food—they’re about the warmth of belonging. Here’s to your Bluefox, and to all of us finding our own. Cheers! 🥂

    • Thank you so much for this beautifully heartfelt response—it truly touched me. 😊

I’m so glad the memories of those Bluefox evenings came alive for you. Those were simple times, yet so rich in laughter, companionship, and unspoken understanding. You’ve captured it perfectly—it was never just about the food or the place, but about the people and the warmth we shared.

  3. Thank you for sharing. Growing up in West Covina, California, there was a restaurant there that I will never forget. It was called “The Bahooka” and it was filled with fish tanks. The interior was dark with the lighted aquariums. The food was good and I remember my baseball coach took us there after our season. It was very unique. Thank you for bringing back an old and good memory. I don’t go to restaurants much these days.

    • What a beautiful memory—thank you for sharing that. It truly brought a smile. 😊

Bahooka Ribs & Grog sounds like one of those magical places that stays with you forever. The way you describe the dark interiors lit by glowing aquariums—it must have felt almost like dining inside an underwater world. And that feeling you mention? That’s exactly what made places like Bahooka so special. It wasn’t just a restaurant—it was an experience.

  4. The language which Britain and France “inserted” into UN 242 of “inadmissibility of the acquisition.

      • Compare that UN SC 242 propaganda to the current slander of Alex Jones: From “Lone Warrior” to “Nuclear Madness”. The Democrap talking point that perverted President Trump’s steadfast refusal for the Mullah regime in Iran, even before President Reagan replaced Jimmy Carter. The latter’s attempt to employ helicopters to insert special forces troops to free US embassy hostages the Mullah fanatics seized, during a desert wind storm – made with the coming Presidential elections in mind rather than the safety of US personnel. This self-centered shift of priorities exploded Carter’s re-election bid. In the same manner, Alex Jones too, post the Court-Case which closed him in particular and his InfoWars studio down due to his inflammatory touching the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting which horrified the nation roughly 6 months in Obama’s 2nd term as President.

Alex Jones repeatedly claimed that the 2012 shooting – staged and that the parents merely Hollywood like actors. In like manner he now condemns President Trump’s war rhetoric “total eradication”, to general genocide of the Iranian people rather than the total war removal of the fanatic Mullahs and their drive to attain nuclear weapons by which to attack the Great and Small Satan’s.

UN Resolution 242 does not concern global conflicts but rather its language “inserts” the post UN repeated condemnations of Israel touching occupied Palestinian lands! 242 does not concern global conflicts but rather its language “inserts” the post UN repeated condemnations of Israel touching occupied Palestinian lands! This UN slander ie European imperialism took advantage of LBJ involvement in the Vietnam War to re-insert Britain and France as great power brokers who themselves determine the balance of power in the Middle East. The 1922 League “Palestine Mandate” based upon 19th Century French maps which the “Sick Man of Europe” acquired which labelled Ottoman Greater-Syria as “Palestine”, coupled with the post WWI British/French division of Sykes-Picot which which devied or apportioned the spoils of the corpse of the Ottoman empire divided up between the two remaining standing Allied empires in Europe including Russia.

UN 242 propaganda changed the original Palestine League mandate to include an Arab Palestinian state which all Arab states themselves universally rejected in Britain language of UN General Assembly 181. 19th Century European colonial aspirations and maps, redefined territorial boundaries in ways that served great power domination of the balance of power in any given region. British division of Iraq separated from a warm water port in Kuwait and the division of India into two warring nations serve as examples to understand European “interests” to insert their dictates into the Middle East. Absolutely no different from the latest slander “internationalist Democrats in Congress” employ the war rhetoric “total eradication”, as to all Iranians rather than limited to the Mullah communist dictators who themselves seek nuclear destruction of the Great and small Satan’s.

Post the ’56 Suez crisis IKE terminated the great power status of both London and Paris. Prior to the 2nd Shoah – according to the declared statements of Nasser himself; who promised to rectify the Arab Nakba disgrace! Nakba, not the post ’67 humiliating Arab defeat which switched the narrative to the poor Palestinians peoples scattered into the winds. But rather the ’48 Arab disgrace the invading Arab states failure to throw the Jews into the Sea – Nakba!

Therefore UN 242, with LBJ’s butt exposed in Vietnam, London & Paris attempted to re-insert their domination in determining the balance of power in the Middle East which IKE utterly negated. UN 242 fits in harmony with Truman’s “containment policy”, and the British empire’s policy of maintaining the balance of power/England as top dog\ resemble one another’s national interests.

France surrendered to the Nazis after 6 months of actual army on army fighting. So their ‘great power’ status has never recovered from their Nakba defeat. Post ’56 London had to brown-nose Washington. However, the Trump Era Washington, while it has “yet” to pull out of NATO, the stink of the NATO corpse in the air. The Trump political rhetoric that describes NATO as a “Paper Tiger” plays well with giving Putin a face saving out of the Nakba Ukraine war. International politics, while it resembles poker – far more nuanced and complex.

UN 242: language ambiguity did not “invent” a Palestinian state. But it most certainly serves as the concealed foundation by which all post 242 UN condemnations of Israeli settlements which culminated in Obama’s 2334 which prioritized London and Paris’s efforts to dominate the balance of power in the Middle East strategic interests! Openly clashes with Trump 1.0 Abraham Accords, recognition of Jerusalem and the Golan as part of Israel’s international permanent Capital and borders and Trump 2.0 Gaza Peace Board which excludes Russia, Britain, the UN, and Frog quartet as great power players in the Middle East. The stench of the dead NATO alliance – EU hostility to US economic dominance within EU economies.

The UN employs the rhetoric of “peace” no different than how Chamberlain did after he personally betrayed the Czech Republic in 1938. Political rhetoric whores “peace” which its lies employ as merely a sweet perfume “noun” that has no teeth. Shalom by stark and obvious contrast a verb that stands upon the foundation of “Trust”. No trust No Shalom. Just that simple.

For example: The entire history of European and Arab empires have played the back and forth – something like tennis – the “Jewish problem”. Post Shoah ’48 Israel’s have sworn a formal Torah oath: “NEVER AGAIN”. Meaning, Israelis reject foreign power dictates which determine “Final Solutions” for their bogus racist “Jewish Problems”.
