“Between Lines and Silence

The poem discusses a portrait that seems lively with deep emotions and stories. The subject hangs between what is real and what is remembered, with a quiet burden of experiences. Through small details—the eyes, the moustache, the shadows—the poem hints at a deeper truth that is not explicitly stated.

In the end, the figure becomes more than just a person; he symbolizes memory, mystery, and the complexity of being human that the viewer can feel but never completely understand.

# Between Lines and Silence #

He sits not still,
but suspended—
between graphite whispers
and the quiet ache of color.

His eyes do not meet yours,
not quite—
as though he has seen something
he has chosen not to share.

A story lingers
in the curve of his moustache,
sharp as pride,
soft as forgotten laughter.

Time has brushed past him—
you can see it
in the weary tilt of his gaze,
in the patience of his silence.

Every line trembles with pause,
every shadow
leans toward truth
without fully speaking it.

And there—
between the fading blue
and the hush of earth—
something stirs.

Not a figure,
not entirely a man,

but a presence—
half memory,
half meaning—

waiting for you
to almost understand.

  2. Excellent poem and beautiful theme!
You are right that some pictures are not just pictures. They seem to be expressive, each feature signifying something — The times, the persona, the history and the mystery.
    Your words express this beautifully.
    Thank you for sharing.

    • hank you so much for your thoughtful and generous words. 😊

You’ve expressed it so beautifully yourself—how some pictures carry far more than what meets the eye. They hold time, emotion, and quiet stories within them, waiting to be felt rather than just seen.

I’m truly glad the poem resonated with you in that way. Your reflection adds even more depth to it. Grateful for your kind appreciation—thank you for reading and sharing your insight. 🌸
