# A Room That Stays #

This poem explores the quiet emotional space within us—where memories, unspoken words, and forgotten dreams linger. It thinks about the strength we have, the struggles we face, and how time changes but doesn’t erase our experiences.

Instead of seeing this inner space as a wound, the poem describes it as a sacred room—where all parts of ourselves exist, reminding us that nothing we have felt is ever truly lost.

# A Room That Stays #

There is a place within—
not found,
only felt.

It does not speak
in full sentences,
only in pauses
between them.

Memories rest there
like evening light—
not gone,
just softer than before.

Sometimes they return
without footsteps,
without warning,
and sit beside me,
as if they never left.

It is built
from unsaid words,
from dreams
I loosened my grip on,
from smiles
that carried more weight
than I showed to the world.

I live—
yes, I live—
moving through days
as if strength belonged to me,
wearing it
like something borrowed
I forgot to return.

No one hears
the quiet breaking,
the storms
that choose silence
over sound.

Some hopes—
I folded them carefully,
like letters
I could not send,
and placed them
in the drawers of time.

They are still there.

Time did not take them,
it only passed by,
gently,
as it always does.

And beneath it all,
under the weight
of becoming,
something remains—

a whisper,
steady,
unafraid—

that nothing I have felt
is ever truly lost.

So perhaps
this quiet place
is not a wound.

Perhaps
it is a room—
small,
sacred,
unchanging—

where every version of me
still sits together,
not asking for answers,
only
to be remembered.

Yes—
a room that stays.

  1. What a deeply moving piece, Verma ji. “A Room That Stays” feels less like a poem and more like an offering—a quiet, sacred space you’ve invited us to step into. The way you give language to the unsaid, to the folded hopes and the storms that choose silence, is nothing short of tender. Lines like “nothing I have felt / is ever truly lost” will stay with me for a long time. Thank you for writing something that makes the invisible within us feel seen. Truly beautiful.🌷🤝

    • Thank you so much for your heartfelt and generous words. They truly mean a lot to me.

I’m deeply touched that “A Room That Stays” resonated with you in such a personal way. When I wrote it, I was simply trying to sit quietly with those unspoken corners within us—the ones we often overlook, yet carry every day. Knowing that you felt that space, and stepped into it so gently, is incredibly humbling.

I’m really glad the poem connected with you on an emotional level.
That’s all a writer can hope for—that something felt quietly within finds an echo in someone else’s heart.
