# The Unchanged Flame #

This poem reflects the quiet journey of self-reflection and personal growth. While we may try new perspectives, new thoughts, or even a new outward appearance, the core of who we are remains unchanged.

It explores the balance between transformation and authenticity, reminding us that true strength and identity lie within the steady flame of our inner selves.

# The Unchanged Flame #

I tried on a different morning today,
wore confidence like a fresh jacket,
walked a little straighter,
as if the road itself
might notice the effort.

People say change is necessary—
new thoughts,
new habits,
new ways of seeing the sky.

So I tried.

I rearranged my doubts,
swept the corners of hesitation,
opened the windows of my mind
to let unfamiliar winds pass through.

Yet somewhere inside,
a quiet voice remained—
steady as an old tree
that has watched many seasons
come and leave.

Someone asked me once,
Are you thoughtful?

Maybe…
when silence sits beside me
and questions bloom like night flowers.

Are you enthusiastic?

Yes—
because hope still runs in my veins
like a restless river.

Ready for action?

Always—
for waiting too long
teaches dreams to sleep.

Sometimes people call it weakness
when strength grows quiet.
But strength does not always roar.

Sometimes
it simply stands in the mirror,
meeting your eyes
without fear,
without apology.

And in that still moment
you understand—

Changing the path is easy,
changing the clothes is simple,
even thoughts can learn new directions.

But the soul—
that stubborn spark within—
remains what it was meant to be:

a small, unwavering flame
that refuses
to become anyone else.

  1. This is such a beautifully introspective piece, Verma ji. The way you’ve woven the imagery of trying on confidence like a “fresh jacket” while that “old tree” of inner wisdom remains rooted is just stunning.

What resonates most deeply is the realization that strength doesn’t always need to roar—sometimes it’s simply the courage to meet your own eyes in the mirror. That’s such a profound truth, so gently delivered.

The closing metaphor of the “unwavering flame” refusing to become anyone else… it stays with the reader long after. Thank you for sharing this quiet wisdom with us. 🙏
