# My First Furthest Adventure #

Daily writing prompt
Share a story about the furthest you’ve ever traveled from home.

Hello dear friends,

I hope this blog finds you in a cheerful and reflective mood. Today’s writing prompt is a question that evokes a mix of nostalgia, excitement, and wonder: “Share a story about the furthest you’ve ever traveled from home.”

When I first read this prompt, countless memories rushed back—every trip with its own unique charm.

But one journey stands out as the most vivid—the furthest I had ever traveled, not just in miles, but in experiences that shaped me deeply.

Travel, for me, is more than moving from one place to another. It’s an exploration of the self, a pilgrimage to the heart of humanity.

Each new destination peels away layers of assumptions and reveals a world brimming with diversity, beauty, and resilience. And nothing captured this truth more than my first international trip—to Bangkok, Thailand.

My adventure began in Patna, my hometown, where I boarded a train with nearly 40 colleagues from my bank. Our institution had organized the tour, and excitement buzzed through the group.

After hours of travel, we reached Delhi Airport, ready to catch our flight to Bangkok.

But the moment we arrived, our enthusiasm dimmed—the airline announced that our flight scheduled for the night had been canceled. Instead, a new flight was arranged for the following morning at 6 AM.

While most of my colleagues appeared upset, I secretly felt relieved. I was nervous about flying at night, so the delay felt like a blessing in disguise.

Even better, the airline arranged an overnight stay at Hotel Radisson—a five-star property. For someone like me, who had never set foot in such luxury, it was a dream come true.

As soon as we reached the hotel, I freshened up and prepared to head to the restaurant for dinner. That’s when I noticed my roommate sitting comfortably on the sofa, sipping red wine.

“Where did you get that at this hour?” I asked.

He pointed at the mini-fridge and said confidently, “Everything here is free. Since the room is complimentary, this must be too.”

I almost laughed. “No, my friend. Nothing in this fridge is free—you’ll have to pay extra, and imported liquor is costly.😍”

The shock on his face was priceless. His excitement evaporated instantly, and together we went down for dinner.

The buffet that night was overwhelming—rows of delicacies, cuisines I had never tried, and an entire counter of desserts.

My eyes lit up when I spotted gulab jamun, my favorite, sitting among more than thirty sweet options. Needless to say, I ate far more than usual.

After all, when something feels like a gift, we tend to indulge without restraint.

The next morning brought with it a scare I’ll never forget. I woke up lazily, only to see sunlight streaming through the curtains. A glance at the clock made my heart stop—it was 8 AM, two hours past our flight’s departure time.

Panicking, I shook my roommate awake. “We missed the flight to Bangkok!”

Just then, I spotted an envelope slipped under the door. With trembling hands, I opened it and discovered the best news of the day: our flight had been delayed by five hours.

Departure was now at 11 AM. Relief washed over me, and I quickly got ready, promising myself not to repeat such a mistake again.

At the airport, the gleaming Thai Airways aircraft awaited us. Security checks done, I walked nervously toward the gate.

A small wave of fear rose inside me—it was my first time leaving the country. But since I was part of a large group, courage came more easily.

I was assigned a window seat. At first, I wished I could exchange it, fearing that looking down from the skies would unsettle me.

But as the plane soared above the clouds, my anxiety melted away. The view outside was breathtaking—soft cotton-like clouds stretched endlessly, and the horizon glowed with a surreal light.

I couldn’t resist capturing the moment on my phone. That was the first time I truly felt the thrill of flying.

Four hours later, we touched down at Bangkok International Airport.

The visa formalities were smooth, and soon our group gathered at Gate No. 8, where a tourist bus and guide awaited us. We headed directly to Pattaya, a three-hour drive away.

By the time we checked into our hotel, it was already late at night. My new roommate and I dropped our bags, had a quick dinner, and returned to the room exhausted. I expected to sleep like a baby after such a long day..

But fate had other plans. My new partner turned out to be a heavy snorer. Despite the luxurious bed, I tossed and turned all night.

Every time I nudged him awake, he stopped for a moment—only to start again. It felt like a battle I couldn’t win. By morning, I realized that travel, like life, is a mixture of sweet and sour moments.

That trip to Bangkok was my first international journey, and therefore the furthest I had ever been from home.

It wasn’t just about crossing borders—it was about crossing inner boundaries of fear, nervousness, and inexperience.

From laughing over hotel mini-bars to panicking about missed flights, from savoring gulab jamun in a five-star buffet to sleepless nights because of a roommate’s snores, every moment became a memory worth keeping.

Travel teaches us that the unexpected is part of the adventure. And looking back now, I can say with certainty: the furthest I traveled from home also brought me the closest to understanding myself.

In my next blog, I’ll share more about exploring the streets of Bangkok and Pattaya—adventures that made this trip unforgettable.
