Hello dear friends,
I hope this blog finds you in a cheerful mood and good health.
Today’s writing prompt is quite compelling—“How do you plan your goals?” It’s a question that nudges us to pause and reflect on the direction of our lives, especially in a world where time slips quietly through our fingers like sand.
Over the years, I’ve come to believe that goal-setting is not just about ticking boxes or achieving success—it’s about aligning our lives with purpose, passion, and peace.
🧭 Why Plan Goals?
We all have dreams—some loud and ambitious, others quiet and tender. But without a roadmap, even the brightest dreams can get lost in the fog of everyday life.
Goals give us focus. They provide clarity and help us prioritize what truly matters.
Planning goals helps us stay:
- Motivated when we feel lost.
- Accountable when we feel lazy.
- Grateful when we reflect on how far we’ve come.

✍️ My Personal Approach to Planning Goals
As someone who discovered his creative soul after retirement, my goal-setting has taken a very heartfelt turn.
Let me share the approach that has helped me turn vague intentions into a daily purpose.
1. Start with Reflection 🪞
Every month, I sit quietly with a cup of mint tea and ask myself three questions:
- What brings me joy?
- What drains my energy?
- What is one thing I want to improve?
These simple reflections help me uncover what truly matters at that moment of my life—whether it’s completing a painting, writing a new poem, or spending more quality time with loved ones.
2. Break it Down Like a Story 📖
I treat every big goal like a short story—there’s a beginning (the reason), a middle (the process), and an end (the result).
For example, when I decided to write and publish my book, the goal felt overwhelming. But once I divided it into manageable chapters—drafting, editing, designing, and publishing—it became less intimidating and more exciting.
I often tell myself:
“A goal well broken down is already half achieved.”

3. Set SMART Goals 🎯
SMART goals are:
- Specific
- Measurable
- Achievable
- Realistic
- Time-bound
Instead of saying “I want to be healthier”, I say “I will walk 5,000 steps every morning for the next 30 days.”
It’s this clarity that turns intentions into reality.
4. Schedule It 📆
Dreams need dates.
I use a handwritten journal to schedule my weekly and monthly tasks. Writing down goals, even small ones like “Finish painting #30 this week” or “Publish blog post by Thursday,” creates a sense of commitment.
Sometimes, I draw little stars beside completed tasks—it brings a childlike joy that fuels me further.
5. Stay Flexible Yet Focused 🌈
Life is unpredictable, especially post-retirement. Grandchildren drop by, health may fluctuate, or sudden travel plans appear. I’ve learned to adapt without guilt.
If a goal slips, I reschedule it with kindness. After all, the journey is as meaningful as the destination.
Progress, not perfection, is my mantra.

6. Celebrate Milestones 🥳
Whether it’s reaching 10,000 monthly blog readers or simply finishing my daily walk, I make it a point to celebrate. A quiet cup of coffee on the balcony, a small chocolate treat, or a heartfelt conversation with my partner—all become moments of joyful reflection.
Celebrating milestones reinforces the belief that our efforts are worthwhile.
7. Visualize Your Success 🖼️
Before I sleep, I sometimes close my eyes and visualize myself achieving my goals. I imagine the smile on my face when the blog is published, or the gentle pride when someone tells me my poem touched them.
These visions act like emotional magnets—they draw me closer to my dreams each day.

💬 Final submission
Planning goals is not just about productivity—it’s about designing a life that resonates with who we are. For me, it’s the harmony between creativity, contribution, health, and relationships.
So, dear friends, as you read this, I invite you to pause and ask:
- What is one goal that would make you proud this month?
- What small step can you take toward it today?
Remember, age is never a barrier to dreaming or achieving. It’s just a reminder to cherish time and make each moment count.
Let us plan with love, act with courage, and celebrate with gratitude. 💫
With warm regards,
Vijay Verma
