Daily writing prompt
How important is spirituality in your life?

Hello dear friends,
I hope this blog finds you in a cheerful mood.

Today’s writing prompt question, “How important is spirituality in your life?” stirred something deep within me.

It’s not just a question—it’s an invitation to reflect on our inner world, our connection to the universe, and the essence of who we are.

I must confess, spirituality wasn’t always important to me. Like many, my earlier life was swept up in the routines of career, deadlines, family responsibilities, and material pursuits.

As a banker for decades, my mind was wired for logic, numbers, and measurable results. But life has a mysterious way of whispering to us—through moments of silence, hardship, or joy.

It wasn’t until retirement that I truly began to explore what lies beyond the visible—the quiet call of the soul, the moments of stillness where time seems to pause. That’s when spirituality started becoming an important part of my daily rhythm.

Spirituality is not about religion, rituals, or dogma—although for some, it includes those elements.

At its core, spirituality is a personal journey inward. It’s about seeking meaning, purpose, and connection—within ourselves, with others, and with the universe.

It can manifest in countless ways:

  • Sitting quietly with a cup of tea and watching the sunrise.
  • Feeling gratitude for the breath we take.
  • Losing oneself in a poem, painting, or melody that touches the soul.
  • Praying, meditating, or simply being mindful of the present.

For me, spirituality is the gentle awareness that I am more than my thoughts, more than my roles, more than this aging body.

  1. A Source of Peace
Life is filled with ups and downs—moments of joy, but also loss, confusion, and fear. Spirituality gives me a calm inner anchor. When storms of doubt rage,

I find solace in silence, prayer, and reflection. It’s a kind of refuge, a quiet place within me where I can rest.
  2. Helps Me Live with Purpose
Spirituality reminds me that life is not just about achievements or possessions. It’s about living meaningfully—about kindness, compassion, creating something beautiful, and leaving behind something that uplifts others.
  3. Strengthens My Emotional Health
Through spiritual practices like journaling, meditation, or simply being in nature, I’ve learned to be more accepting of myself and others.

I’m no longer in a race—I’m in a rhythm. And that shift has brought immense emotional healing.
  4. Deepens Relationships
Spirituality teaches us that we’re all connected. When I see every soul as a reflection of the divine, empathy naturally flows.

My relationships have become deeper, more patient, and more forgiving.
  • Morning Silence: I begin each day by lighting a diya, offering gratitude, and sitting quietly with my thoughts. Sometimes I chant, sometimes I write, sometimes I just breathe.
  • Connecting with Nature: A walk among trees, listening to birds, watching rain—these are my meditations.
  • Creative Expression: My paintings, poems, and blogs are all spiritual expressions. When I create, I feel closest to the divine. It’s as if the brush or the pen is guided by something higher.
  • Reading Sacred Texts or Philosophical Writings: Whether it’s the Bhagavad Gita or Rumi’s poetry, these words illuminate my path.

So, how important is spirituality in my life?

It is my breath without sound, my journey without footsteps, my faith without reason. It’s the reason I smile without a cause, and the strength behind my silence. It doesn’t make life perfect—it makes it meaningful.

In this fast-paced world, where distractions are many and clarity is rare, spirituality offers us a lantern. Not to escape life, but to embrace it fully—with reverence, wonder, and love.

I invite you, dear reader, to explore this path in your own way. Whether it’s a quiet prayer, a song, a walk, or simply closing your eyes and feeling the pulse of your heart—start somewhere.

Because in the end, it’s not what we achieved that matters, but who we became.

With warmth and light,
Vijay Verma
