# My Journey of Self Love #

Daily writing prompt
What’s your favorite thing about yourself?

Hello dear friends,
I hope this blog finds you in a cheerful and reflective mood.

Today’s writing prompt touched me deeply:
“What’s your favorite thing about yourself?”

It sounds simple at first glance, but as I began to reflect on it, I realized that this question opens the door to self-discovery, gratitude, and self-love — the very elements that give our life meaning.

So today, I wish to share something intimate and honest with you:
My favorite thing about myself is my passion for reinvention.

You see, I wasn’t always a writer, an artist, or a poet. For many years, I was a man of finance — a banker, tethered to numbers, regulations, and spreadsheets. There was structure and predictability, yes, but not necessarily creativity or fulfillment.

But retirement brought a miracle — a second life.

It gave me a blank canvas. And instead of folding into the silence of routine, I chose to reinvent myself — as a storyteller, a painter, and a curious soul embracing life like a beginner again.

My passion for reinvention is my most cherished quality because it has kept me alive, not just breathing, but truly living.

This quality has given birth to countless short stories, soulful poems, and brush strokes on canvas. I am 67 now, but feel younger at heart than ever before.

The thrill of learning something new every day — be it experimenting with abstract painting or editing a short video — energizes me.

Whenever someone asks me how I manage to stay so engaged, I simply say:
“Because I fell in love with growth over comfort.”

Whether it’s writing blogs on health, love, or reflections from my life’s journey, or dancing in the bathroom alone with showers, feel joy in our hearts, each act comes from this burning desire to rediscover and reinvent.

And that — dear readers — is the magic I treasure most about myself.

In a world obsessed with youth, success, and speed, we often forget the quiet power of evolution. We fear change as if it erases our past.

But I believe change is what makes the past worthwhile. Reinvention is not about replacing our identity — it’s about peeling off the layers and meeting our true self.

It allows us to be artists of our own life.

Even my blog, Retired Kalam, shows this journey. What began as a simple way to share my thoughts has turned into a collection of feelings, experiences, and dreams — a gift for both the world and myself.

You might ask — “Does it ever get tiring?”
Well, not really. In fact, my inner child thanks me often.
He cheers every time I pick up the paintbrush,
He laughs when I make a silly rhyme in a poem,
And he nods with quiet approval when I write something deeply heartfelt.

That inner voice, long silenced by adulthood and responsibility, now sings again.

The best part is how my favorite thing about myself impacts others. Friends tell me they’ve started writing again.

Strangers leave kind comments on my blogs. Even my granddaughter says, “Dadu, you’re cool!” — and nothing feels better than that.

When we allow ourselves to grow, we become permission slips for others to do the same.

So, dear reader — I ask you today:

What is your favorite thing about yourself?
And if you’re struggling to find an answer, may I offer a suggestion?

Look not at what you do for a living — but how you live your life.
Notice what lights you up.
What would you still do if no one clapped?

Maybe your favorite thing is your kindness. Or your resilience. Or your ability to see beauty in the little things.

Whatever it is, cherish it. Celebrate it. And if you haven’t discovered it yet, don’t worry — it’s never too late to meet the best parts of yourself.

As I close today’s blog, I’m reminded of a quote that beautifully sums up my journey:

“The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are.” — Carl Jung

Thank you for staying with me on this journey of self-exploration.
Let’s continue to grow together, live creatively, and celebrate the spark within us — the one that never fades with age, but only gets brighter with time.

Warm regards,
Vijay. Verma
Your friend in reinvention, reflection, and resilience.

  2. Your words resonate deeply. Reinvention is such a powerful act of self-love, and the way you’ve embraced transformation—with creativity, curiosity, and a willingness to evolve—is truly inspiring.

I’ve found myself on a similar path. At 59, I went back to school to finish my degree, embracing lifelong learning. Life changed drastically when I lost my spouse in 2021, but in that space of grief, I reconnected with my high school sweetheart—proof that love can find us again in unexpected ways.

Leaving my stressful, toxic job in the court system was a leap, but one I knew I had to take. After retiring from 30 years in the education system as an administrative assistant, I chose to pursue traveling and writing, seeking new ways to sustain this journey financially.

Growth over comfort truly speaks to me, and reading your reflections is a reminder that it’s never too late to rediscover our passions and embrace the art of becoming.

    • Thank you so much for sharing your deeply personal and inspiring journey.
Your story moved me—every word a testament to courage, love, and the quiet strength that comes from choosing yourself after great change.

Reconnecting with your high school sweetheart after such a profound loss is truly heartwarming… a beautiful reminder that even in the midst of grief, life offers us unexpected gifts. And the way you’ve embraced lifelong learning and left a toxic environment behind to pursue travel and writing—it’s nothing short of brave.

Like kindred spirits on parallel paths, we are both rediscovering life’s beauty through creativity and self-belief. Growth over comfort is not just a phrase—it becomes a way of living when we choose to listen to our soul’s call.

Wishing you continued joy, adventure, and fulfillment in every chapter ahead. Keep writing, keep exploring—and thank you for reminding us all that it’s never too late to bloom again. 🌿✨

For me, my favorite thing about myself is my admiration of change. People tend to be afraid of change in life, which is understandable because it can be scary at times. But for me, change means that I can embark on a new adventure that’ll leave me wanting more!! Change drives me to explore parts of my soul that I never knew before. It opens my eyes to connect with new people on a spiritual level which is always incredibly exciting. As someone who has a free spirited nature, change is a blessing for me 🙂 .

    • Thank you so much for your beautiful and soul-stirring response! 😊✨

Your admiration for change truly resonates with me. It’s refreshing and inspiring to see someone embrace it not as a disruption, but as an invitation—an opportunity to grow, evolve, and discover new layers of the self.

Your free-spirited nature shines through every word, and it’s wonderful how you see change as a spiritual journey, not just a life event.

Indeed, change is a blessing for those who see it through the lens of wonder and curiosity—just like you do.

Keep embracing those adventures, and may each new chapter bring you closer to your most authentic self! 🌿🌟

  6. I love this post as gratitude truly reflects in your words. You gave me perspective on how we should take our daily struggles with gratitude not with something that we are doing because we are stuck at it and have to do it .

I’m truly glad the post resonated with you. Yes, when we shift our perspective from obligation to gratitude,
even the smallest daily struggles begin to feel more meaningful.
Life isn’t about being stuck—it’s about being present, and every little act can become a form of self-love when done with awareness and thankfulness.

Wishing you peace and strength on your journey… one mindful breath at a time. 🙏✨
