Ah, luxury—A word that brings to mind images of richness—silk sheets, fancy vacations, diamond watches, or maybe a private yacht on the Mediterranean.

But as I pondered this while enjoying a quiet morning chai, I realized that luxury is not only about money or showiness. It’s about what enhances your life, what comforts your soul, and what provides a unique sense of joy and meaning.

So what’s the one luxury I truly cannot live without?

My Creative Freedom.
Yes, that’s it.
The ability to create—whether it’s writing heartfelt blogs like this one, composing a tender poem, painting a riot of colors on canvas, or even humming a tune to my granddaughter—is the greatest luxury I’ve ever known.

The Soul’s Oxygen

Creativity is not about producing something to impress others. It is about expressing yourself.

It’s the freedom to look within and translate your feelings, thoughts, and dreams into something beautiful.

For me, this began after retirement, when the clock stopped ticking to the tune of office hours and deadlines, and started syncing with the rhythm of my heartbeat.

This newfound freedom was like discovering a secret garden within myself. I began to write—about memories, people, love, aging, laughter, loneliness, and hope.

I picked up a paintbrush, not because I was trained, but because I felt called. I danced again with my partner—not for perfection, but for joy.

These were not acts of leisure; they were necessities. They helped me connect with myself and the world in a more authentic way.

Why Is It a Luxury?

Let me be honest—creative freedom is a luxury because not everyone has it.

People are often caught in the web of responsibilities, expectations, and the ever-churning wheels of survival.

Many don’t have the time, the peace, or the courage to pursue something that doesn’t produce income but produces joy.

I consider myself deeply fortunate that I have this time— this space in life where I can sit under the sky with a journal, or lose myself in the colors of a painting. This isn’t just a hobby; it’s a treasure. This is the air my soul breathes.

Some people might say their phone or their car is their indispensable luxury. For others, it’s travel, fine dining, or a spa weekend. All valid answers, because luxury is personal.

But for me, if I had to give up all these things and keep just one— it would be the freedom to create.
No possession can compare to the feeling of penning a poem that moves someone to tears or painting something that brings peace to my heart.

How It Transforms Life

You see, creative freedom is not about indulgence. It’s about transformation. When I sit down to write, it clarifies my thoughts.

When I paint, it calms my anxieties. When I compose a video or song, it energizes me. It is my therapy, my meditation, and my connection to others.

Sometimes, people ask me, “Why do you write every day?” I reply, “Because every day, I feel something worth expressing.” And that is a blessing I don’t take lightly.

Luxury, to me, is being able to live life on your terms. And through creative expression, I live each day with authenticity and joy.
