Daily writing prompt
What personal belongings do you hold most dear?

Hello dear friends,

I hope this blog finds you in a cheerful mood, with your cup of tea warm and your heart even warmer.

Today’s writing prompt made me pause for a moment and dive deep into the quiet corners of my soul:
“What personal belongings do you hold most dear?”

At first glance, it may seem like a simple question — one that invites a quick list: a watch, a photograph, a special gift.

But the more I pondered it, the more I realized how profoundly we attach meaning to our belongings. They are not just objects — they are vessels of memory, emotion, and identity.

Let me take you on a small journey through the keepsakes of my life — each one holding a piece of who I am, where I’ve been, and what I cherish most.

Among my most treasured possessions is my first published book — a collection of heartfelt poems, now available on Amazon. Holding that book in my hands was like holding a part of my soul, finally shared with the world.

Each poem within it was born from silent reflections, late-night musings, and a heart full of emotion.

The journey from ink-stained pages in an old diary to a published book was both humbling and exhilarating.

Whenever I find myself lost in the chaos of daily life, I flip through its pages — and suddenly, I’m in conversation with my past self.

That book is more than just paper and ink; it is a testament to dreams rediscovered and the power of words to heal and connect.

After retirement, life gifted me a second chance — not in the form of wealth or recognition, but in the form of colors.

That very first paintbrush, now stiff with dried paint, still rests on my shelf like a quiet symbol of rebirth. It was with that humble brush that I dipped into a world I had never explored before — the world of art.

I still remember the moment I touched my first canvas. I was unsure of what I was creating, but I knew how it made me feel — free, alive, and wonderfully young again.

That abstract painting, though far from perfect, became a reflection of my emotions, unfiltered and raw.

It now hangs proudly in my small studio, a vibrant reminder that it’s never too late to chase a new passion or discover hidden layers of yourself.

That brush and that canvas are more than just tools of art; they are symbols of self-discovery. They remind me that beginnings don’t come with age limits — they come with courage.

Inside one of my favorite books, there’s an old black-and-white photograph — slightly curled at the edges. It shows me and four close friends, celebrating a carefree college day filled with laughter and dreams.

We were young and unaware of what life would unfold. Though time has faded the image, the memories remain vivid.

It’s not displayed or framed — just quietly tucked away like a hidden gem. But every time I see it, I remember the strength of friendship and the beauty of fleeting moments.

Children have a magical way of expressing the deepest emotions with the simplest words. I still remember the day our home welcomed its youngest star — my beloved granddaughter.

The photo from her first birthday celebration, now slightly faded, is more than just an image; it’s a living memory of joy, laughter, and the beginning of a beautiful bond.

From the very start, she was attached to me in the most heartwarming way. One day, with the innocence only a child possesses, she looked up at me and handed me a colourful piece of paper with the words, “You are the best Dadu in the world because you always listen to my stories. written on it

Her little note, written in her wobbly handwriting and colored with a rainbow of crayons, is one of my most cherished treasures.

I have it tucked safely in my writing desk, where I often pause to read it.

That tiny note melts my heart every time. It’s a gentle reminder that love doesn’t need grand gestures.

Sometimes, the greatest gift we can give is simply to be present — to listen, to care, and to make someone feel heard. That note is more than paper; it is a testament to a bond that words can hardly capture.

I began writing blogs and poems late in life, but ever since, my writing journal has become my faithful companion. It’s filled with scribbles, stray thoughts, verses, and raw emotions.

Many of my blog entries began as random jottings on these pages. They may not be polished, but they are real — a window into my inner world. That journal holds my evolution, one word at a time.

It’s fascinating, isn’t it? The things we hold most dear are rarely the costliest or the flashiest. They are personal, intimate — often humble in appearance but immeasurable in meaning.

These belongings ground us when we feel adrift. They serve as time machines, transporting us to moments we long for. They are bridges between generations, whispering stories from the past into the hearts of the present.

Dear friends, the belongings we hold dear are mirrors of the heart. They reflect the love we’ve shared, the lessons we’ve learned, and the lives we’ve lived.

In an era obsessed with speed and minimalism, let us not forget the quiet magic of a handwritten letter, the smell of an old book, or the innocence in a child’s crayon-scrawled note.

So I ask you: What belongings speak to your soul? What stories do they carry?
Let’s celebrate these precious fragments of memory and meaning — one story at a time.

Thank you for joining me on this nostalgic journey. I would love to hear about the treasures you hold dear. Share your story — and let’s keep the warmth of memory alive.

With love and reflection,
– Mr. Verma
