# Quotes That Guide My Soul#

Daily writing prompt
Do you have a quote you live your life by or think of often?

Hello dear friends,
I hope this blog finds you in a cheerful and peaceful state of mind.

Today’s writing prompt, “Do you have a quote you live your life by or think of often?” struck a deep chord in me.

It made me pause and reflect—what is that one quote that I carry in my heart through all the seasons of life? And yes, there is one. It’s simple, profound, and has been my anchor through storms and sunshine:

“This too shall pass.”

These four words are more than a quote. They are a life philosophy, a quiet whisper of hope in times of despair, and a gentle reminder of humility during moments of triumph.

“This too shall pass.” This ancient Persian proverb carries the wisdom of centuries within its brevity.

Life, as we know, is a mix of joy and sorrow, laughter and tears, victories and setbacks. This quote has often helped me maintain balance in the ups and downs of my journey.

During moments of pain— like health challenges, personal losses, or even silent inner struggles— I have repeated this quote to myself like a mantra.

It acts as a healing balm, reminding me that no storm lasts forever. And in happier times, when everything seems perfect, it humbles me. It urges me to be grateful, not boastful, for even this joy, too, will pass.

As someone who retired from a busy banking career, this quote helped me transition from a structured professional life to an open-ended creative life.

Retirement is, for many, both a liberation and a challenge. While you gain time, you might lose a part of your identity.

In those early retirement days, I felt adrift. The silence was deafening. But remembering “This too shall pass” comforted me—it helped me lean into this new phase with curiosity rather than fear.

And eventually, I found joy in art, writing, poetry, and blogging—passions that now define my days.

Of course, I’ve encountered many other quotes that offer strength and insight. For instance:

  • “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” – Mahatma Gandhi
  • “Happiness is not something ready-made. It comes from your own actions.” – Dalai Lama
  • “Not all those who wander are lost.” – J.R.R. Tolkien

Each of these quotes has visited me like a friend at the right time, whispering the right message. But “This too shall pass” remains my constant companion—like an old song that always fits the mood.

Emotionally, this quote teaches acceptance. It has helped me forgive myself for my failures and be patient during tough family situations.

It tells me, “You are not your worst moment. Nor are you your best.” It puts everything in perspective and offers emotional maturity without making me cold or detached.

In moments when tears welled up in my eyes—both from heartbreak and from joy—I’ve whispered it quietly, almost instinctively. It turns time into a teacher, making me trust the process of life.

Living by this quote encourages mindfulness. I now treasure the little moments more— like a morning cup of tea, the laughter of my granddaughter, the smell of rain, or even the act of creating a blog like this one. I don’t take anything for granted, because everything is fleeting.

And isn’t that what makes life so beautiful? The fact that it changes, that every moment is a one-time gift. This quote doesn’t make me fearful of change—it makes me a lover of the present.

So I ask you today: Do you have a quote that you carry like a precious coin in your pocket? Something that makes you feel safe, or brave, or whole? If not, try borrowing mine—just for a while.

“This too shall pass.” Whisper it to yourself the next time life tests you, or even when you’re laughing on a perfect evening. Let it remind you that every moment—good or bad—is just that: a moment.

And that, my friends, is a blessing in itself.

Until next time,
Stay kind, stay curious.
Warmly,
Vijay. Verma

  3. Anger does more to the container than to whom it is poured

    • Absolutely! That’s such a profound and timeless truth. 🌿

Anger truly is like acid—it corrodes the vessel that holds it far more than anything it’s poured upon.
Holding on to anger not only disturbs our peace but also dims our inner light.
Letting it go, on the other hand, opens the door to calmness, clarity, and compassion.

Thank you for sharing this thoughtful insight—it’s a gentle reminder to protect our own inner harmony
      and choose peace over turmoil.

  4. I read your post under my project of ‘ read 2, write 1 per day’. This too shall pass is one of the strong quote I often hear too, bcz my father is also very fond of it. As you say it make life very simple bcz it conveys how the world is ever changing. As for my quote it is : ‘Everything happens for a good reason’. It makes me feels happy and urge me to find a silver line in every bad cloud.
