# How I Use Social Media #

Daily writing prompt
How do you use social media?

Hello dear friends,

I hope this blog finds you in a cheerful mood, sipping your favorite cup of tea, and embracing the simple joys of life.

Today’s writing prompt caught my attention like a spark in the dark — “How do you use social media?” A simple question, yet it holds within it the mirror of our digital souls.

Let me take you on a little journey—of reflection, realization, and renewal.

I still remember the first time I created a Facebook account. I was hesitant, unsure of what lay inside this virtual universe.

A retired banker, now exploring the world through words and colors, I found social media to be an entirely different planet.

The best part is that it became a bridge, connecting me to old friends, distant relatives, and like-minded strangers who shared a passion for writing, art, music, and life.

For me, social media is not just an app. It’s a window.

A window through which I look out at the world — and sometimes, the world looks in and sees me.

I don’t scroll endlessly or fall into the traps of comparison. Instead, I use social media with purpose — as a creative outlet, a source of knowledge, and a space for positivity.

🌟 Creative Expression
I share my poems, short stories, and heartfelt videos. It feels like my art breathes better when others experience it.

Every “like,” every comment, and every share is like applause at the end of a stage performance. It motivates me to keep creating — not for fame, but for fulfillment.

🌟 Spreading Positivity
There’s enough noise out there. So, I choose to share joy, hope, and inspiration.

Be it a simple quote, a serene painting, or a blog post about life’s little wonders, I want my digital footprint to be gentle and uplifting.

🌟 Lifelong Learning
You’d be surprised how much one can learn from social media!

From cooking tips and painting techniques to health advice and spiritual wisdom — my feed is my classroom, and every scroll is a lesson.

Let’s be honest — social media isn’t all roses and sunshine. It has its shadows too. But I’ve learned to walk the path mindfully.

🚫 Comparison – I remind myself that everyone shares their best moments online. No one posts their silent tears or sleepless nights.
I stay grateful for my life, instead of measuring it against another’s highlight reel.

🚫 Overuse – I limit my screen time. Mornings are for myself — prayers, writing, exercise. Social media enters my day only after I’ve honored my own rhythm.

🚫 Negativity – I unfollow or mute content that disturbs my peace. Digital detox isn’t a trend for me, it’s a habit — practiced weekly.

One of the greatest gifts social media has given me is a community.
I’ve met aspiring writers, young artists, fellow retirees exploring their second innings, and even enthusiastic readers of my blog, retiredkalam.com.

These connections are not shallow — they are soulful. We exchange ideas, encourage each other, and celebrate little victories together.

Social media has blurred borders. Now, a friend in Kolkata can share their sunrise photo while I sip green tea in Patna — both feeling connected in spirit.

As technology evolves, so must we — not blindly, but wisely. Social media can be our servant or our master. The choice lies with us.

I choose to let it serve my creativity, not steal my time. I choose to use it as a diary, a gallery, a letter to the world. I choose to post what makes someone smile, think, or feel — even if only for a moment.

So, dear reader, how do I use social media?

With gratitude. With mindfulness. With heart.
It’s not a place I escape to — it’s a place I contribute to.
Not a battlefield for attention, but a garden where thoughts grow, and kindness blooms.

And perhaps, that’s what we all need —
To use social media, without letting it use us.

Until next time, stay cheerful, stay creative, and may your timeline always be filled with light. ✨

BE HAPPY… BE ACTIVE… BE FOCUSED… BE ALIVE
